Default how do I tell the diference?

Hello everyone, I am new here and new to this type of forum, I belong to many art forums for my paintings but never thought to join one for dreams. Then a co-worker suggested it today, so here I am.

I have had pre-cogitative dreams all my life (I think that’s what they are called) the problem is that I also have more regular dreams and I have trouble figuring out which are the pre-cog until the actual event has taken place. Its kind of like a cruel joke. As a result I have started just disregarding all of them when I have them because there really seems no way to tell what’s real and what’s not.

I have pre-cog dreams about all sorts of things. but it seems to only something related to myself, someone in my family or close relations so really I am the only person who benefits anything from them.
The less impressive and seemingly stupid pre-cog dreams I have are as follows: I live an entire event, no latter how menial it is, recently I was in search of a new day job and had a dream where I was in an office I had never been in before talking to a co-worker about a specific topic and looking at the computer. Two months later I applied for, interviewed for and got my new job, last week the event which I had dreamed about happened. it was very uneventful but EXACTLY like the dream, so much so that I felt a shiver go through my entire body when it happened. Those kind of pre-cog dreams happen on a fairly regular basis, but I never know until the event happens in real life.

The other kind I have are more serious and even harder to tell what will happen and what won't A good example of this was when I was 12 years old. My father died in our home very suddenly at a very young age. He had been well one day and within two days had died in our home. For three months previous to his death almost every night I dreamed that our home was flooded and he died. Each dream was a little different and the flooding never caused his death, it was just what was happening at the time he died. The flooding came in all different forms, actual water, hail caving in the roof and turning to water, etc etc etc. Our home at the time was at the top of a steep hill and had never experienced any sort of flooding. On the day he died it was snowing, hailing and raining heavily at the same time, so strongly that the water pooled where it would have otherwise ran down the hill and our house became flooded with a couple inches of water. I had remained home from school for the day and was helping my mother get the water out of our house and prevent more flooding when he died. He had been healthy just three days previous and my dreams of his dieing with water around ended the day he died. This is un-related but the day after he died I awoke early in the morning to his voice calling my mothers name and the front door (which had been dead bolted) flew open.

That is only one example, but the majority of my life each time something significant has happened in my life I have dreamed it ahead of time. But because I dream so much and in such vivid detail regularly there seems to be no way of telling what is real and what is not until the event happens. The death ones always seem to be proceeded by that person contacting me in some day early in the morning the next day, but I don't always know who that person is or what the event will be. 4 months ago I woke after a very strange dream with all sorts of people I did not know to the sound of a woman's voice calling my name, I immediately awoke thinking someone might be outside trying to get me to come to the door but no one was there and no one was anywhere near my home. There is an entire side of my family I am not familiar with which that person could have been, but I still have not figured out who it was.

I was told they were pre-cognitive dreams but on here I see them as premenition dreams. Can anyone give me some idea of what I can do to be able to better tell the diference when these dreams happen. I feel as though I am just kind of allong for the ride, like I get to see what is going to happen but because I can't tell the diference between the premenition dreams and my regular dreams until it comes true I can't do anything about it or even prepare. I don't want to try to change the future or anything, just be able to tell when it is premenition and when it is not, at least be able to tell a little easier then now.

Thanks for any assistance you can give me, I don't know much about dream interpretation on my own so please forgive me if I don't offer much assistance at first, I am learning but I will do my best to respond to people who I might have some idea about.

Hi PreCog Dreamer ~ I think your name fits. I am new also and have a hard time interpreting because I have pre-cog dreams too. I can tell the difference because the dreams that happen are in vivid technicolor. If a dream is black and white with something in color it happens, but in a different way. All black and white dreams are purely entertainment or nightmares, open for interpretation. Have you noticed a difference in your dreams of black and white or color?

I have not noticed a diference in my dreams, they are either in regular everyday color or I don't notice either way.

But I did find your description earily interesting. I am a painter, I still have my day job for reliability but I have been selling enough so that my primary source of income in from my paintings. The way you describe your dreams sounds exactly like my paintings. Please take a peek at these links, i think its a very strange and earie coincidence.

Wow! This is wild! I feel like I am looking at some of my dreams as I look at your paintings. I can see why they are selling for you. They are excellent! It gets even stranger. I majored in Fine Arts, got my degree in painting and drawing and used to teach college and high school art. I just bought a ton of canvases to paint on and restocked my paints that had gotten old or lost. Thank you so much for posting these. I love them. I have my boyfriend's 11 year old for the summer and it has been tough to get started on anything since he takes so much of my time. You have inspired me to get going though, so thank you. I am experimenting with watercolor on canvas for the first time and loving it. Are any of these images from your dreams? Peace ~ Golanv

these are all from waiking dreams, or day dreams. I will be driving or at work and it will pop into my mind. I cary a journal in my pocket at all times, its small and allows me to sketch it when it comes to me. I never know what anything means until it is finished and I stare at it for a wile though.

they are all acrylic on canvas, I have never done watercolor on canvas, how is it? I would imagin it would soak in quickly.

You are doing a great job with acrylics. I couldn't tell if it was acrylic or oil. I am using a special canvas for watercolor, Yes Portrait Canvas, available from jerrysartarama.com is made so smooth it is like a paper surface and accepts all mediums including ink, watercolor and markers. You may want to try it. I am using watercolor over pencil drawings and it is wonderful.

do you know if its available in rolls or by the yard? I will check the website to see. I do larger scale but I have been looking for a smooth finish small tooth canvas that I can stretch to any size and that is affordable. (not making enough to splurg) Its important thats its not very absorbent though, thats the only way I can have the acrylics look like oil, that and I have been useing Atelier Interractive Acrylics which come with a kit of mediums. The slow medium is fantastic and allows me to controle how long it stays wet, thats the thing with acrylic is that it dries so fast.

Actually they have a sale going on now on the stretched canvases and I believe they have it in rolls, etc. too. Ah, it would be great to paint big again. I have been battling arthritis that made it too much to handle the big canvases. But I recently painted a mermaid/fairy on a door in my home. I am getting there again. It would be worth it I think to try it for your medium. Thank you for sharing that secret with me. I've been putting off my reaction to your paintings & my dreams until it unscrambled in my head. I believe I paint from my dreams sometimes. I am also very much into the beauty of black and white, in my case the pencil underdrawing, with more color on the figures. Please feel free to pm me if you'd like. I think we could talk for ages.

Sorry for the digression folks. The dream that really comes to my mind is the one of my roommate's death in '02. I dreamed it about 2 weeks before her passing and told both her & her daughter about it. She was in full color at the top of the stairs and I saw her trip on a black and white garden hose. In my dream I tried to get to her to help but couldn't. In real life she tripped on an electrical cord. She fell in the same position as in my dream, hit her head and was unconscious for 2 hours. Her daughter found her on the floor. My roomie was a professional psychic. She had been trying to get me to move in with her for years because she thought she would not be around to see her daughter out of hs and into univ.( I heard this after she passed from one of her friends.) She was widowed, missed her husband and ready to go at only 51. She called me the morning after the fall. ( I was singing at a funeral out of town.) I reminded her of my dream of her death & insisted she get to the ER to be checked out. She called her Dr. who told her to go to bed??? She called me back much later and then told me she would go anyway, I was so adamant about this, and was calling 911 when we got off the phone. She never made the call. They set the time of her death at the same time as when we finished talking. In this case the dream was a good thing; even though it was terribly distressing we were somewhat prepared for it. When my roomie called me the first time she had been in an argument with her daughter. Because of my dream I called her cell & told her to go back home & see her mom & call 911; told her what she'd told me about the argument. They made up before her mother passed, which was a wonderful thing. I became guardian of her daughter and stayed for 2 more years until she finished hs. She was upset at first, feeling guilty because she didn't call the ER as I had asked her to but her mom would not let her call them and told her to go back to school after they made up. It was after that when I finally talked her into going, by phone, but it was too late. Just like in my dream, I was too far away and couldn't get to her.

A fascinating thread and postings from you both. Premonitions tend to possess a kind of omen while predictive dreams can be on almost anything although there is little actual difference between them. While I am uncertain how many have such dreams it is a feature to my life and to the lives of many of my friends. My dreams are mostly in colour but occasionally I have the monocoloured ones. I too do not know if a dream is predictive until after its occurrence except, when I dream in B&W, and find myself clearing out dusty shelves in cupboards in an old cottage, then, soon afterwards I move house! I am now in my 21st house!

MAP. you are an excellent artist and one who readily displays feelings of yourself in your art. Looking at your paintings is like reading your life story. There is a complexity of inner-feeling, some more readily recognisable than others. Depression seems to be a feature of your life but I sense that it is in spite of your father's loss rather than because of it. The majority of your paintings convey the same theme; a kind of narcissism, self-consciousness, self-awareness, and underlying feelings, I suspect, of fear. You feel vulnerable, conscious of your own feminity and inadequacy and that too of the predatory or evil thoughts of the male; indeed, you feel as if you are living in a hard, male-dominated world. There are other features of yourself hidden in your paintings (like paranoia and the desire to be accepted as a person rather than because of your gender) and so much more but I'll pass on those. Your feelings are, of course, universal and that's why people readily buy the paintings. You are communicating to the public something about the life they live. There is a profound message to your paintings. You seem to be in search of an answer. You could almost call your series of paintings 'myself in everyday life'! You are a talented person who uses art for carthartic purposes but then so do most other creative artists or writers. Your paintings are like a silent scream.

Dreams are not the only method of communication as everything we do drops hints about us like that of scattering confetti for all to see; we are, indeed, genuine naked apes! We all make our own public statement of who and what we are. It is primitive behaviour and part of what is known today as the 'pecking order'. We think we are civilised while our feet are still stuck-fast in the primordial mud; a feature of humanity which you understand.

You said that you do not know what your painting will be until it is completed but then how many of us know what we are about to say until we've said it? Same thing.

Enjoy your art and the world will share in your enjoyment too.

Hi Jennings. They are quite good aren't they? MAP, I do hope you will try the multi media canvas. You will love it. I am glad I get the color/black and white thing to let me know if the dreams are to happen or not. It is a blessing. I am reassured when I wake from a nightmare and it has been in black and white. That is when I can use the help of the people who understand dream interpretation. I have learned to take the color ones pretty literally. Namaste ~ Golanv
