huge accident

Had a very startling dream early this morning. I was at some huge outdoor race track, like one used for Formula One racing. There were thousands of spectators and it was somewhere in the mid part of the U.S., no hills anywhere to be seen, very flat countryside. It was summer, as people in the crowd were wearing shorts and t-shirts. Only it wasn't racecars that were racing on the track, it was huge semi trucks, like the kind that haul food over long distances, huge "big rigs" - and they were racing around this huge oval track at ridiculous speeds. And the dream just sort of started there like all of a sudden I appeared at this place in order to witness something. And this big race was already in progess. I was kind of floating in the air over the track, when one of rigs that was trying to pass another (and even in the dream I thought it was ridiculous and dangerous to even have such a race in the first place), completely lost control and plowed into the concrete barrier at the side of the track, going completely through it and hitting what seemed like hundreds of people in the process. People were screaming and running and the scene was very horrific. And then suddenly I woke up and actually sat right up with this vivid seen of carnage in my mind.

Since no one with any common sense whatsoever would ever allow such a "race" to occur, I realized the big rigs in the dream must be symbolic of something else, but I don't know what that could be, because if, say, it was a plane crash wouldn't you just dream of a plane crash? It was a very strange dream though. The feeling I felt wasn't fear at all, it was a sense of outrage at what I was seeing and what a stupid waste it all was, as if someone with authority should have prevented it from even occurring in the first place. This accident was on the news earlier, and the photos were amazing, but it was cars, not trucks. One car became airborne twice, then crashed into a fence, and the fence injured a couple of spectators. Ouch.

I think the big trucks treat our highways like race tracks sometimes though! I wonder if it might also be something about how truckers are faring with the current economic problems? I would imagine they might be having a hard time, with so many cutting back on spending. Goods are surely not moving as much as they used to.

I think, sometimes, that I am getting visions/dreams of the news reports, rather than visions/dreams of the actual events. Does anyone else ever sense that? I see so close to what is shown on the news sometimes that it's eerie.

I think you already told yourself what it is about when you wrote 'like the kind to haul food'....

We may have food disruptions if the flu that's out there turns out to be more serious....approximately 40 per cent of our food is trucked in. Much is imported.
Or that combined with credit crisis.

In the flu pandemic of 1918 half the population caught it, so while most didn't die (2.5 to 5 percent of worlds population is the estimate), many people were laid up, couldn't work, and also we may have quarantine problems.

Maybe someone will run a blockade, or rush food to someplace.

Very good; I honestly think you picked up on something important. I'll bet it felt that way too.

I've been thinking about this dream a lot, you are right, it felt important. My other half suggested I try interpreting it economically, which I think you were hinting at....."Big rigs" could refer to the big banks who have "rigged" much of the financial crisis/bailout. That thousands are affected is already undeniable. The "mid-USA" could easily be the middle class, already an endangered species, being the ones affected. "One of the rigs trying to pass another" that causes the "accident" and goes "out of control" could be the bigger banks trying to gobble their competitors, leading to a crisis that somehow gets out of control. Actually when he suggested this interpretation of the dream, I remembered we had talked earlier that same evening over dinner about derivatives and how scary that whole scenario was and that there should have been oversight BEFORE all of it was allowed to happen. When I read you suggesting that you bet it felt important, that was partly the feeling in the dream to, and also the feeling my partner and I had when we were discussing the economic crisis at dinner (and again, food was on my mind because we also discussed how much of what we normally buy has gone up in price)......I haven't yet put this dream out of my mind, because there's a little niggling notion in my head that is telling me it is important to figure out what it means.

As to this flu, I live in Canada and the cases here have been reported as quite mild. I'm old enough to remember the swine flu scare in '68. Lots of us had the flu that year, but it was no worse than any other flu, though a lot more people got sick. I know this is going to sound crazy, but I'm "getting" the distinct impression that this flu pandemic is a distraction for something mroe serious that is going on, if that makes any sense. (And let me say right here, that I hope everyone who is ill recovers and I do not mean to make light of this situation by any means.) I can't be any more specific than that, but I've been meditating on it and the meaning of that dream and hope that some clarification will come.

I think the timing is right, that it is in the summer and now I am thinking "July" (although that certainly wasn't in the dream).

These are strange days for sure, thanks for your reply, pikka, and yours too Ravenstar (I did not hear of the accident on the news, even after reading your response). And, yes, I do sometimes dream of things that will be on the news, a headline suggesting the death of some famous person, or I'll "hear" a reporter discussing some disaster, so I know what you mean! (In the meantime, it never hurts to put in a few extra canned goods, just in case.)

have you had any important economic disaster dreams before now? it isnt logical if you cared about such things that you would only have a dream about it now. the economy has already crashed and burned. sure there have been bills passed to ruin the economic future, but it'll probably get better before it gets worse.

your dream may very well be a premonition, but it is my opinion that you should look closer to home. what is something important for you that could occur in july?

You say the economy has already "crashed and burned" - and yes, I have been interested in this subject, as are most people, but I think things are going to get much worse economically, in other words, we haven't seen the bottom of the crash yet. I started to worry in the fall of '07, and, yes, I've had other dreams easily relatable to the economic situation, just none quite like this one that I kept mulling over for days, but of a more personal/community nature and easy to interpret directly. This one still has me puzzling and, again, I'm not totally sure why or even if an economic one is the right interpretation. Perhaps the dream is about something else entirely. Also, I can't really think of anything coming up in July, other than some friends visiting from Europe.....However, if something drastic happens that reminds me about this dream thread in July, I will certainly post it.
