I have contacted her earlier this week, I just went to where she works en told her that I loved her since I ever saw her for the first time.

She then looked at me and said "ehhh..who would have thought or guessed.." and then made it clear to me it was never a mutual thing, atleast not with the same intensity. So essentially this was a good thing as this has been a pretty life-desturbing illusion for over twenty years and I'm free'd from it atlast.

At the other hand, she wasnt the person I'd expected her to be in any way and didnt match up to me in any way. The image I had concerning her was totally false as she wasnt this classy person I once gave her credit for..

Oh well, I'm glad the dreams will never bother me again (of which I'm certain of) and I finally will be able to live life without the burdon of regrets that haunted me for so long.

I want to thank all people that participated to this thread and I'll be seeing 'n hearing ya's

Best regards, Ray

Ray, I feel sorry that things didn't work out the way you wanted them to but at least now you know. You were really brave to talk to her and tell her how you feel. Pat yourself on the back for that. Before I even saw the post saying you had talked to her I was going to answer and say that it's very common for people to have someone in their past who they felt was 'the one'. It seems that you really start thinking about them when you hit middle age. I don't know why people feel that way. Maybe it is just that first love is so powerful, or that the reality of future relationships can never compare to that first ideal love.

Actually she took it quite good and was kinda happy because of the outcome, at first that was. At a later time she became very melodramatic about it all and then we both started to realize we werent the ones being able to make eachother happy. We still feel a lot of love towards eachother but we did end the relationship all the same.

I guess your right, its that ideal love and the tension/atmosphere of the very first, I realize that now. The dream has ended, so it wont haunt me anymore but at the other hand this all totally blew my faith away concerning true love and the fairytale-alike promise it once seemed to be. Nevertheless I have survived it all and I have no questions in that direction anymore to worry about, hopefully peace will come as soon as I've processed it all.

Thank for the replies and thanks for your sympathy Celine, its really appreciated.

Best regards, Ray
