Default Disturbing nightmare that made me think need help

This is the first nightmare that I can say Ive actually had since I was about 7 years old, and Im having trouble seeing why now I have had one. Im 19 years old and when I was about 15 my grandma died. It was a hard loss but slowly I got over it. After she died I used to have dreams about her telling me things like help people exc.. my cousin who was my roomate last year in college was having problems and m grandma came to me in a dream and told me to help him. well last night I had a dream about my grandma coming back from the dead and jumping out of a tree that I have in my backyard some of my family members were in it and we were trying to run from her. My grandma was a wonderful person and in the dream my family memebers were saying bad things about her like they remember people giving the kids drugs and what not and she had never did ny of those things. Before I woke up I rmember myself taking a gun out of my pants and telling my borther that I would protect them. The weird thing was as I was waking up I could feel myself shaking like someone was grabbing me and shaking me. Can someone help me decipher what this means or what is really going on. I would appreciate it.

Hi there!

A funny glitch has just happened. I read your posting yesterday, but I didn't think I could be of any great help, so I didn't post any answer. I didn't ask to watch this posting - but I got an e-mail saying I was, and that a reply was rec'd. But when I clicked on the link, it said it didn't exist!

Maybe it's nothing, but since I believe that all things are for a purpose, perhaps there is something I can tell you ... ? So I will try.

I have had experience of people who have died using dreams to communicate with us; it feels different to other dreams, but it's hard to say why: in trying to explain, we can only say, "It seemed significant, somehow," or "It was very real," which don't really explain the difference because dreams always seem real when you're dreaming them, and lots of dreams have an emotional impact so that they seem very significant. It usually ends up with saying lamely, "When it happens to you, you understand the difference, and when you've experienced a few the difference gets clearer and clearer." Not much of an explanation.

From my experience I would say the earlier dreams really were your grandma communicating with you, but this one, no. I think it was she who in concern was shaking you and trying to pull you out of it. Other than talking to people you know on the next plane (which I think comes about through a telepathic connection, not necessarily involving a "going" anywhere), I believe that there is another type of dream in which your energy self goes wandering on the energy planes, but as there is no matter there, what you see is not what there is, but a kind of symbolic interpretation of what you experience there, in order to be able to store the experiences in a form you can understand, because our knowledge and understanding is limited to a 3-dimensional material world, and outside that, there are many more dimensions and no matter. But I don't think this dream is in that category.

I think there is a third kind of dream which covers most of those we experience, in which we express our worries, anxieties, doubts about what is currently going on in our lives, including "what ifs", and "how would I cope with ..." - like what if the house caught fire, or what if I got faced with a knife-wielding maniac. It's a kind of chance to rehearse and test our own boundaries.

This is the category I put your dream into. Like: what if the one person I trusted most turned out to be not what I thought they were? - Reversing your real experiences. So I would call this an anxiety dream, expressing unsureness, self-doubt, and rehearsing "what would I do if". What would you do? Protect your family from the threat. What has been so disturbing about it is seeing your grandma whose bond with you is so great, who you love and look up to, portrayed in reverse; that's why I think she sensed your distress and tried to intervene.

If there is any other purpose to it, perhaps it is to help you to learn to distinguish when you are in real contact with her, and when it is an illusion, to help you to trust your knowledge/senses more.

Best wishes from me.

There is a simple and uncomplicated answer to your dream. Evidently you were fond of your grandmother and she clearly was an influence for good in your life. Her loss impacted on you and you have been in grief since. There are different levels to grief and you appear to have become stuck in one of those levels. It disturbs you to hear others denigrating her which you seem to find confusing. To rid yourself of this conflict of feeling you want to put her to rest; you want to get her out of your mind by making sure she is dead, probably to protect her reputation but this thought has shocked you and hence the shaking. Probably you need to believe in yourself more and especially in your own beliefs about your grandmother and not allow yourself to become unduly influenced by others around you. She sounds, from what you say, that she was an interesting person.
