| Nightmares! Horrors in the night? Do you wake up screaming, or wish you hadn't fell asleep in the first place? Post it here, or if you are good at helping folks interpret these kind of dreams, then do so here. Maybe you will get a good night's sleep. ; |

I am concerned for a friend of mine who is an insomniac - whenever he does sleep, he has nightmares. He has one that reoccurs.
He is walking near a lake, and a tree. Someone he cares about or is close to raises their hand up from under the water in the lake, and calls to him. He goes to them, but they grab him, drag him under the water, and drown him. It's always a different person in the lake. A few nights ago he had this dream about me. This concerns me since every other person he's cared about in his life has been murdered, committed suicide, or has left him in some other way. It occurred to me that this dream may be a warning to him, that investing himself in people will only hurt him or kill him. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi,
As far as I can say; Lake means a person with a limited science like a lawyer , a doctor or a teacher. A tree is another person ( What kind of tree?) To take someone under the water means receiving some power from that person and the lake symbol. I think receiving some power from those people and you is correct and their death are not related to this dream. Good luck. |

I think perhaps your friend fears being overwhelmed by his own feelings for the people he is close to, because his experience has been coloured by too much loss. He is afraid they will pull him into a lake of pain which will be too much for him. By this dream, he is warning himself of the danger when someone gets close. I think he needs to try to release his fear, and to recognise that he has survived these losses. We can only avoid the pain of loss by not having anything or anyone to lose, and that is worse. Remember it is that which gave you joy that now gives you sorrow. Tell him not to be afraid to open his heart and love. It is the only thing that gives meaning to life. Ultimately, love is the meaning and the purpose. I wish him all good luck.

I wonder if this dream is a warning to you? Your friend manifestly needs help. It sounds as if his early life contained trauma or someone closely attached to him in his developing years felt like one of life's victims which could have imprinted on him. Whatever happened he seems to be projecting his fears and hates on to others almost as if he is punishing them for his unfortunate feelings. Be careful!
