Default Great big metal contraption pointing at me?

This nightmare probably won't sound scary, since all my friends have laughed about it so far. But it terrified me! All I can remember is being outside in a field, and it was near dusk. All of a sudden this contraption was formed in thin air. I don't quite remember how it was made, but it had a thick, cylindrical base, a long neck, and then a pointer, almost like a fork. It was a reddish colour, almost as if it was rusty, and made of dark iron.

And all of a sudden the thing pointed right at me! I know I was doing something in the dream, I have this very very faint image of me sitting in something on the floor that looked like cream-coloured, dusty things, maybe shoes or something. And it was as though the machine was pointing to me and saying "You do that" but I don't know what I was doing! Even in my dream I felt that everything was very vague and uncertain, but that machine pointing at me was dead clear and stern. It's almost as if I *heard* it telling me that.

Anyway, I woke up but I was very drowsy, and for a moment I thought the thing was downstairs, in my living room, pointing up at me. That scared the heck out of me, and when I sat up in bed I realize I had ripped my sheet and put a great big hole in it with my nails from gripping the sheet! That's how much the nightmare scared me, though I know it's ridiculous.

Does anyone have any idea at all what this one means? I usually have some sort of vague idea but I'm stumped. I have awful nightmares, stuff that has me crying and sweating and screaming when I wake up, but this was by far the worst yet...for whatever reason!

Hi,
when something happens in sleep that causes pain or discomfort, or some danger, the subconscious creates a dream that literally frightens you awake.
I can't tell what the reason was for the above dream, my guess is a bad sleeping position that caused you to have breathing difficulty.
I red some of your posts and you do have problems in sleep.
I singled out this from one of your earlier posts:

Quote:
I tried asking my one friend if he could toss the fish outside, but he was on his laptop, and kept telling me he was busy and he would “do it in a second.” As the fish was flopping more and more, I grew very upset, and for some reason I didn’t want to touch the slimy fish and save it myself. I asked my old best friend’s brother to help, and finally he picked it up—but instead of throwing it out the window, he slammed it into the wall! I was now in hysterics, feeling absolutely terrible for the poor creature, and as he picked it up again and threw it against the wall I screamed at him to stop. The fish hit the wall, and it bounced off and hit me in the small of my back, causing me to gasp in my dream. I also gasped in real life, which burned my throat and forced me to wake up. I have never been woken up this way before!
The above quote from one of your dreams indicate that you had an acid reflux in your sleep! "I also gasped in real life, which burned my throat and forced me to wake up".
This is a clear indication af acid reflux in sleep. However the subconscious creates an interesting and long dream story round it! The most amazing thing about the dream is that it all happened in afraction af a second - from the time you burped, to the time the acid started burning your throat. You also had an oily, fishy smell in your mouth!

Thank you so much for your input; you're probably right. I have such awful sleeping problems my friends all sort of joke about it and poke fun at it, but as I'm sure you understand it's no laughing matter to me. I manage about 30 minutes of sleep and then wake up because of a nightmare, toss and turn, fall back asleep, and do the same thing again all night. It can also take me literally four hours of lying there, exhausted, to go to sleep. It used to be just when I was stressed but now it's all the time.

Not to mention I've been having wicked nightmares. I believe my dreams are waking me up from uncomfortable sleeping positions, but I fall into these 'cause I have so much trouble sleeping, mainly because I am always waken up by nightmares...so it's like an awful cycle. My doctor tried getting me on Benadryl for a few days and gave me a sleep schedule to follow and it didn't work out. I'm a student and I have a job and I usually fall asleep around five in the morning, wake up at six on weekdays and four in the afternoon on weekends, and I try to squeeze in little naps when I can during weekdays. I can't stand it anymore.

You seem to be really knowledgeable about dreams and sleep, and I've been looking everywhere for any sort of advice...would you have some for me? I'd be willing to try anything--I've already tried a warm bath before sleeping, a mask over my eyes at night, the fan running, soft music, herbal tea, cutting out all caffeine, only working out in the morning, winding things down before bed, keeping all of my work out of the bedroom, meditation, and soon I'll be trying yoga classes. School starts again for me in three days and I'm dreading it already.

Thank you again for your insight.

Hi,
Thanks for your reply. I shall read all your posts and probably be able tsee what causes your nightmares. In at least two of your dreams you had acid reflux. that is digestive juices coming into your throat and you get a burning sensation. So it is likely that you have digestive problems. However digestive problems can be caused by stress and tension in your studies or job, as well as some fatty and spicy foods.
You could try cacium carbonate tablets before going to bed. They neutralise acid and are quite harmless - I use them sometimes for indigestion. I would also reccomend a higher pillow.
I shall come back later.
Hope you get some good sleep.
Cheers Wolfjk
