So, about a month ago I had this dream and was absolutely horrified and couldn't sleep for days. I haven't had it since then until last night so I thought it was just because I moved into a new place. But, last night I was at my parent's house and the same dream occured. The first time I had this dream I had just fallen asleep and then something made a noise outside so I woke up. But, instead of normally waking up I couldn't move. I felt that someone was holding me down in bed and I could not get up. My eyes were not open but I could see everything that was happening. There was no one there but I could not move. Then, last night it was even worse. I don't know why I woke up but this time my eyes opened. I felt as if someone was on top of me and would not let me move. I tried screaming and I could not speak. Then all the sudden I sat straight up and my eyes were still open. I finally was able to go back to sleep when I awoke again but this time it only felt like someone would not let me move for a few seconds. I'm not sure what this is but it is extremely scary. If anyone has any ideas of how to remedy this or what it is about...that would be extremely helpful. I feel like I'm crazy for these dreams but I assure you I am not!

Hi babyblondie,
What you experienced is called "sleep paralysis" and is very common. Most people experience it sometimes. It happens when your mind has woken up, but your body hasn't quite caught up yet. I had it happen once with my face smushed into the pillow, so I couldn't breathe! That was really scary, but fortunately, I had just re-read _Where People Fly and Water Runs Uphill_ by Jeremy Taylor, and remembered he said that to release sleep paralysis, try to move a fine motor muscle rather than big muscles like arms and legs. I twitched my eyebrow, and it worked! So, now that's what I do. Twitch an eyebrow. It's like magic! |

babyblondie,
It's possible that you are having a spiritual encounter in the dreamtime. The first thing I would suggest you do is find a qualified person in your area who can examine you to determine whether or not this is the case. You can try Google-ing for shamans, dream workers, or demonologists in your area. If you find potential helpers - ask a lot of questions before agreeing to let them help you. If they ask a large fee, I'd look elsewhere. Traditionally-apprenticed people usually don't charge any fee. If it is indeed a negative spiritual contact, you don't want to be aggressive towards it because that will anger it and cause it to increase the severity of its attack. Nor do you want to give it fear, for it feeds on fear. In the meantime, here are a few things you can do: 1) You can put certain stones for protection under your pillow, or on your headboard or nightstand - these are: amber, amethyst, angelite, black tourmaline in quartz, carnelian, chalcedony, chrysoprase, citrine, clear quartz, hematite, holey stones, jade, jet, labradorite, lapis, lepidolite, red jasper, ruby. 2) You can use protective herbs in a dream pillow/sachet to put under your pillow. These are: cedar, mandrake, mugwort rosemary, lavender, and hyssop. 3) You can smudge before bed. I suggest using cedar, sage, and mugwort (no sweetgrass, which calls spirits), and smudge yourself and your bedroom thoroughly. Once a healer has removed any connections to you, I would suggest you acquire a traditionally-made dreamcatcher (not available in stores) to prevent any new connections from being made. Good luck! Please post back and let us know how you're doing. ~DreamingFox

It is a normal sleep paralysis dream. It is created by your own subconscious to frighten you awke, or move you out of a bad sleeping position. The dream most often happens when you go to bed stressed and tired. You go to bed and lie on your back thinking about the problems and stresses of the prevous day. Go to sleep on your back and after some time experience breathing difficulties. The subconscious uses the the things you fear most; bad spirits, a sense of a presence, someone holding you down, and the feeling that you cant move to wake you up. You're not alone hava a look atthis long thread You can be sure that there are no spirits or evil entities involved. Everything you feel or sense is created by your own subconscious to wake you up. It is all for your own good. Cheers Wolfjk

It's really unfortunate that so many people out there do not believe in spirits, ghosts, demons, etc. These people are fortunate in that they have yet to encounter such things, which *do* exist - just ask the Vatican, who in the last few years has been training four times the amount of exorcists that they used to. Or ask someone who has been the victim of a hostile haunting in their home.
As a member of a team of shamans who have dealt with such things many times over the years, I can unequivocally state: Yes they do exist, and yes they can influence our sleep and dreams, as well as our waking lives. And to Wolfjk: The reason for these forums is to give those with questions and problems multiple options to best resolve their situation. There are many different things that can influence one's sleep and dreams - medications, drugs, alcohol, foods, stress, and yes, even spirit. I am astounded and dismayed at how often sleep paralysis is used to explain away things which are not understood. This does a disservice to the people who are *not* experiencing this phenomenon. There are many possibities to explain unusual dreams, but I don’t feel daily stress or sleep paralysis is the answer for a recurring dream of this nature.

I'm here to help people understand their dreams. Dreams deal with the problems that occur in the sleep. Every dream and every part of the dream is created by the sleepers subconscious to respond to the external and internal influences that happen during sleep. If you're a lucid dreamer, sometimes you may be able to glance into the dark side of the subconscious. It is a very powerful entity, far superior to the brain. The subconscious creates the dreams that heal you while you sleep wake you up in the morning, entertain you, and take your mind off thing that bothrs you. Simply, dreams control the sleepers life. Regarding religion, both ancient and modern, in this age of heart transplant, cloning and genetic engineering it is quite irrelevant. Religion is spreading ignorance. The spirits you see are created by your own subconscious. The spirits that need exorcising are planted by the religious institutions who advocate their existentence. Some people are easily persuaded. Some peple are easily hypnotised. Cheers Wolfjk

Wolfjk,
We are all here to try to help each other with our dreams. Because general forum etiquette dictates that responders should keep to the subject of the thread, I will keep this short. Conversations on religion belong elsewhere, like in General Chit-Chat. What you feel about religion is not the same as everyone else in the world, and it is not appropriate or considerate to dictate your own philosophy here. Please be polite when responding - try to state your own opinion without calling someone else wrong. Let the dreamer decide which approach or solution to their problem *they* feel is right. ~~~~~~~~ babyblondie, I offer you this advice: Weigh everyone’s suggestions and then decide for yourself which one - if any - you feel is correct for your situation. Again, please post back and let us know how you're doing. ~DreamingFox

I am of the opinion that "perfect Love casts out fear," (1John 4:18) and that fear produces the illusion of spirits, ghosts, and demons to those who don't make any effort to overcome their fears through getting themselves educated and learning that they can shield themselves from unwanted psychic input.
Any psychic attacks that I've ever experienced have come from currently incarnated people, not from spirits, who sent me images of my dog hanging upside down dead on a meathook, or of my hands cut off and my wrists bleeding on my keyboard. This is not spirits! I have never needed to go running to any professional exorcist or shaman in order to deal with any negativity. I have the White Light Shielding my guide gave me (posted here in another thread), plus he shields me and gave me the shield in a dream, plus I know herbs and things to use for myself if I'm feeling pulled into a negative place, such as smudging with sage and cedar to clear negative energy, and then with sweetgrass to bring in positive energy. I have my own inner guides and angels, as well as the Holy Spirit, and prayer is also very effective. We don't need to dwell in fear! We can deal with it for ourselves, with the help of inner guidance. But many make money off of keeping people in fear and making them feel helpless without their intervention, and it's long been known that the Vatican is interested in power and control... why do you think the Bible was still in Latin for Catholics during my childhood, even for the service itself, as I recall my friends telling me, which wasn't that long ago in the grand scheme of things. It was to keep the power for the priesthood, and keep the unwashed masses ignorant. It's really pathetic! |
