Recurring nightmare since childhood

[The Lilac Pilgrim]

This dream returns very rarely but it's very vivid and it started out as a childhood night terror when I was very little.

It starts off that there's a large parade in a city; the bad guy of the dream is getting married. The bad guy looks a lot like the Jack Nicholson Joker (I don't know why that strikes me so much XD) but very skinny and spindly and he wears a black tuxedo with a top hat. The bride has long, full black hair and wears a fluffy white dress,and the pair are on a float travelling down the city streets. For some reason I have to save the bride, but am always set upon by the "bad guy's" goblinesque goons. I can feel their claws ripping away at my skin and eyes and I normally wake up then.

The thing about the dream is that it rarely occurs now that I'm an adult but it does reappear, and though it's slightly different each time the story is the same. Any ideas?

Hi,
The dream indicates that you're allergic to strobe lighting or some other electric lighting. My guess is that you used to have the dream after going to the fair or a disco.
You may need glasses.

This quote from the end of your dreams tell you that you the dream was caused by eye strain. Your subconscious could not state it any clearer. It takes you round town, shows you a movie - the activities that make you use your eyes, and then tells you they are hurting!
You may not need glasses but the dream probably happens when you're overdoing something.

Hi there. I don't believe there's any way of interpreting a dream like this or anything else in any simple way simply because of how complex the brain is. There may be a combination of elements in the dream, like wanting to save the woman from this bad guy, (which is probably a natural chivalric instinct for any guy). The scene itself sounds like the parade scene in the 1980s movie batman with jack nicholson as the joker. Nightmares in my own experience can include having quite gory violence inflicted upon you, (or the narrator as I put it sometimes, as the main character is not necessarily you but may be someone famous for example or a person you do or don't know, or someone who to your knowledge doesn't exist), and often this is the point when one wakes up. Why they gouge at your eyes in particular I don't know, but it doesn't sound very pleasant and maybe your brain 'chose' that in the dream because it's disturbing.
