| Nightmares! Horrors in the night? Do you wake up screaming, or wish you hadn't fell asleep in the first place? Post it here, or if you are good at helping folks interpret these kind of dreams, then do so here. Maybe you will get a good night's sleep. ; |

I have always had nightmares my whole life. Which for the most part don't really bother me, because I know they are not real. But in the last couple of years things have changed. When ever I wake up from a nightmare my whole body hurts, it feels like every nerve ending in my body is throbbing in pain which can last up to several minutes. It does seem to serve some sort of purpose though, because when I wake up my attention is drawn away from the feeling of fear and directed at my intense pain. I was just wondering if this happens to anybody else and if anybody knows why this happens.

Perhaps it is the pain in your sleep that causes the nightmare. If you're hurting after you wake up something is causing your pain. Have a talk to your doctor about it. It might be your sleeping position that causes your pain. Are you getting pins-and-needles? Cheers Wolfjk

Yes, once I had a dream I was suffocating and it felt so real I thought I was going to die. I kept running around my house in my dream and opening windows and trying to breathe but I couldn't get to any fresh air. It felt like I was constantly straining for breath and the air was unbearably hot! I think it was because I had my head into my pillow lol!
I have also felt mental pain in dreams. I dreamt a close relative was murdered and woke up crying.

Nightmare is a dream which causes a strong unpleasant emotional response, typically fear or horror. Sleepers may waken in a state of distress and be unable to get back to sleep for some time. Eating before bed, which triggers an increase in the body's metabolism and brain activity, is potential stimulus for nightmares. Studies of dreams have found that about three quarters of dream content or emotions are negative.Fearfulness in waking life is correlated with the incidence of nightmares.
