Default A Waking Death.. (semi-lucid, paralyzed)

First off, I have had these dreams off and on for over 3 years now. I would say it happens to me quite regularly, compared to what I've found from most people googling; about 3 times a month. I will try to be very descriptive on what I feel happens, although describing a dream like this can be hard... First off, I'm 26yrs old, live in an apartment with my girlfriend, and I do not sleep with a TV on anymore.

So, this dream almost always occurs once I fall asleep, like 10 minutes in I assume. There is usually no dream connected to it, simply a death sequence that takes place, it's like a panic attack.. Basically, my first conciousness of this dream is me, lying in bed, feeling as if I am dying and trying most often to yell for help from someone. I can SEE the room, exactly as it is at the moment, I can see the room lights, pillows on my head; if a TV is on, I can tell (I can even hear it), but things are a bit blurry (semi-lucid, I assume). Usually, my screams do not make it past my dream, in real life one just sees me struggle (usually my lips twitch very badly). I am paralyzed in my dream, although I do not feel 'pressure' or feel 'weighted'.. It's more that I am so focused on the panic of dying that I cannot move. It is almost always associted with a loud thumping / buzzing sound. If I DO manage to scream out for help or make audible noise, it usually awakens me from this dream, although it takes a while for me to calm back down... If I go immediately back to sleep it can happen AGAIN, I've had it happen at most 3 times in a row..

Soo.. This happened again last night, and I no longer find it scary, even though it feels VERY real and usually upsets me a little; instead, I am focused on trying to either induce it or figure out what causes it. I have a feeling it could be a form of sleep acnea, since it happens so early on in my sleeping, as if my body is trying to prevent me from sleeping in a certain position or something (usually on my back with head turned far right.. maybe I'm pinching something in my neck). Or maybe it's a limb going to sleep (though, when I wake, no limbs are numb or asleep). I have not been able to 'induce' it on myself, however, as I've tried the past week... I've tried thinking negatively or just focusing on the situation it creates, but nothing. I used to hate having this dream to the point where I was scared to go back to sleep (because it can re-occur on the same night), but generally if I get up and eat or something before going back to sleep I am fine the next time, only if I go STRAIGHT back to sleep does it happen again, if at all..

Oh well.. Just thought I would share it with the community, since I feel a bit better knowing others know of it or may have had a similar experience.. I will post any further findings I have with it

Hi,
What you describe is a sleep paralysis dream. It is quite common in one form or another.
The way it happens to you is probably caused by you trying to go to sleep on your back. When you lie on your back some saliva flows into your throat and might obstruct your airways.
Try consciously lying on your back and see what happens? With most peole, going to sleep on their back causes bad dreams or nightmares. Breathing becomes difficult after some time, the sleeper is fighting for air, and often snore or moan.
The subconscious creates the dream of not being able to move, shout, or open the eyes to frighten the sleeper awake. Basically it is the most effective way to wake the sleeper from a bad sleeping position.
Make sure you clear your throat before sleep and avoid going to sleep on your back.
I hope all goes well.
Cheers Wolfjk

Default Me too...

I had something similar to this happen to me about 2 years ago and it was the most terrifying experience of my life.

My sister had told me that it happened to her a couple weeks earlier, but I didn't think it could happen to me just by sleeping in her apartment!

I fell asleep (on my back) and woke up, (I can't remember how long I was asleep, if it was still nighttime or early morning) I woke up and had the distinct feeling that somebody was holding me down. It felt like someone was laying on me and pushing down at the same time. It felt evil and I could clearly see my sister sleeping next to me and I could see around the room but I couldn't actually move and I know my head wasn't moving.

I started reciting the Lord's Prayer in my head (which is weird because I'm surprised I even know it by heart) and kept trying to scream my sister's name.

I ended up actually calling out and waking myself up and waking my sister up as well.

It was one of the most terrifying experiences of my life.

Default dreaming

I myself have been having these type dreams sense as far back that I can remember which is at least 45 yrs. It has never changed. I also can have them multible times, I hear a loud buzzing sound and it appears I fight it and fight it to try to wake myself up as if I did not I would also die. Terrible thing. For some reason, and I do not know if I am really doing it, my mouth opens and closes over and over again. My eyes always are closed too. Wow I hate these. I now get up after the 2nd one and try to watch TV but there are times where I am sitting in the chair it then starts all over again. Now I see why some people really believe they have been abducted LOL

It's comforting to see other people have experienced variations of sleep paralysis. It happens to me quite often (as recently as last night). I never sleep on my back, but the idea is the same. It's as if my body's asleep but my brain is very much awake. I can't move except for my eyes and maybe a finger and cannot make a sound. What makes it terrifying is I seem to hear things. Tapping, rushing, voices even. Sometimes I see things, too. Usually the room looks very red and once I swear I could see fire. There have been times I've seen a dark figure sort of pacing around the bed. I told a friend about this, he has experienced the same thing. He likes to call it 'death checking up on you'. I find if I fight it and try to move (rock myself, etc), I can come out of it sooner or later but if I just lay there, the sounds and visuals just become more and more intense. The first time it happened, I thought I was dying or something!

Due to the frequency of these experiences, I've asked my doctor about it but he just looks at me like I'm crazy or making it up.

Hi Im Jenny-I am a follower of Jesus Christ And God has layed on my heart to speak to you about these demonic spirits from Hell that are attacking your spirit through these dreams. God is the only one that can deliver you from these Satanic dreams you are having. I dont know what kind of life you live. But, let me tell you something if you were walking with God in your life, you would not be having these dreams. You need to repent and ask Jesus Christ into your life and you start getting into pray. And when these spirits are attacking you, speak out loud:through the precious blood of our Lord Jesus Christ I bind every demonic spirit from hell to be loosened from my body, mind and spirit,I am a child of Gods I cast you back into the pits of hell. And say thank you sweet Jesus. You stay in pray. Go to a spirit filled church as long as its not faults teachings. You make sure its a church that uses the Holy Bible and that speaks the name of Jesus. I am telling you right now,we are living in the last days all the things in this world that are happening multitutes of hurricanes, earthquakes, natural disasters, Americas economy fall, nations would turn against nations,Kingdoms against kingdoms, there is more evil everywhere all these things are prophesied in thr book of Mattrew,Luke,John, even in the Old Testament of Daniel. So Satan is at work trying to deceive as many people as he can. You and your girlfriend need to receive Jesus. There is going to be a rapture and it could happen at any time. Thats when Jesus, the son of the living God comes back for his church and his people who accepted him into their hearts will be taken off this earth to heaven, and all the dead in Christ will arise out of their graves. Did you know there has been close to 1000 prophesies that have been fullfilled, since the beginning of creation. Well I hope this helps you. There is power in prayer. God says test me if you do not believe. Its doesnt matter what you have done in your past,if you really ask for forgivness he will forgive you and ask him to come into your life. He loves you that much.Your name will be put into the Book of Life.Verily,Verily I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life. John 6:47, Thy dead men shall live, together with my dead body shall they arise. Awake and sing, ye that dwell in dust: for thy dew is as the dew of herbs, and the earth shall cast out the dead Isaiah 26:19 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: And I give unto them eternal life;and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. John 10:27,28

Hi to all. I know exactly what is going on. I have had the same thing happen to me billions of times. The thing that is happening to you is evil. Bad ****. Very Very bad ****. Let me ask you 1 simple question when this "thing" happens are you resting on your back? Because If you are That is what's doing it. Its called the 3 devils that watch you in your sleep. Its some scary **** I know. How I know this is because I thought i was crazy in the head and just thought it was just in my head. I got so ****ed up from it I called my mother up on the phone and this is what she said. "Son your not going crazy, Its the 3 demons that watch you in your sleep and go in your body take your soul and replace it with theirs so they feel the life." That's why when you feel like your in your room or where ever you are sleeping your soul is their but not in your body. That's why you cant move!

sorry to burst your bubble, but god has nothing to do with this
sleep paralysis can happen to anyone at any point in their lives - including babies
it happens when you are in the REM stage of sleep (rapid eye movement). you are awake, yet your body thinks you're still asleep. your body paralyzes you so you cannot move while dreaming. sometimes this happens for no reason, sometimes its drug induced.
either way, the best advice i have is to sleep on your side - i havent had a single experience like this since i stopped sleeping on my back (i used to have it happen more than twice a week for many months)
good luck with your problem everyone =)
