| Nightmares! Horrors in the night? Do you wake up screaming, or wish you hadn't fell asleep in the first place? Post it here, or if you are good at helping folks interpret these kind of dreams, then do so here. Maybe you will get a good night's sleep. ; |

First of all, I'd just like to say, it's been sometimes I've had an actual nightmare. I really don't consider these dreams nightmares anymore, more like.... Episodes. Probably not the right word, but oh well.
Anyway, I'm just curious about what kind of feedback I'd get here. This stuff greatly interests me, and if anyone knows anything I don't, or has any thoughts or opinions about this, feel free to share them. Ever since I could remember I've been going into sleep paralysis by 'accident' (I'll explain this part later). When I was a kid these dreams used to scare the living sh*t out of me, mostly the 'evil' element in them was a shadow man of sorts who would sit in my hallway and stare at me. When I reached middle school he gained more form, and became some kind of Jackal Man. Similiar to that egyptian god, thing. Eventually, during high school I read a book about sleep, and found out exactly what these 'nightmares' were. Then they seemed to subside, for about a year, and I thought I was in the clear. Sure enough though, they started happening again, except this time, the evil element wasn't there. It was just me, sitting on my bed paralysed. And I did what any rational human being would do, I freaked the f*ck out. Struggled despiratly to move, but I couldn't move more than my wrist if even that. I focused all my effort on screaming, I thought if I could get out one loud sound, my family might come in, and wake me up. Everytime I screamed, although I was putting all the effort I could into it, it came out as a rasp, or just normal talking. But, I woke up. After talking to members of my family who were in different rooms but close enough to hear, I found I hadn't made any noise what so ever before I awoke. These episodes still freaked me out, but at least I knew I had some control in them now. I wasn't so helpless, the fear was almost gone. For a while they subsided again for a short time, but it still left me curious. Eventually I got to reading, and found out about the hypnagogic state, a state between sleep and wakefullness. Where hallucinations occured. I had been in this state before, and come out with some memory of it. Bright colors, I would hear things like dishes clanking in a kitchen, people calling my name, something touching my arm or leg, etc. I found out soon enough that some people actually tried to induce the hypnagogic state, as a method to remote view, or communicate with their subconscious mind, or even some stuff about the astral plane (I however am not one to believe in spirits or astral worlds though). I was focused on exploring the depths of my own mind, rather than that stuff, it seemed like nonsense to me anyway. I gave it a try, the results.... Were interesting. Sure enough, the first few times, I induced the hypnagogic state, with no problems. After a few tries spread out over a week, I induced the hypnagogic state, and then to my shock, slipped into sleep paralysis after a few minutes. It freaked me out again, but only because I wasn't prepared for it. I took a break for a week or two, and tried it again. This time, I focused on moving. I could get my right arm to move, but it was very sluggish. Like someone turned up the gravity alot. Eventually, I got both arms, and my head. I seemed to hit a brick wall with that. I couldn't get up, and I couldn't move around. Just my arms and head. I kept trying, and eventually lost interest. Sometime passed before my next 'accidental' sleep paralysis dream, but this time a thought passed through my head. 'What if I couldn't wake up?'. At this point, once again I freaked out. Fought to get awake, and did. However, I just couldn't shake that thought. So I stopped. When I did go into sleep paralysis, once again I focused completely on waking up. And eventually, the dreams stopped altogether, once again. Some time later, a few years after high school, I started going into the hypnagogic state again on accident. I had a job that required me to wake up at an ungodly early hour, and a schedual that changed daily. Eventually it got to the point where I would be sitting there, waiting on someone, and I would go into the hypnagogic state. I would snap out of it, about the time I had to go, but I would remember it. And then, the sleep paralysis episodes started up again. They happened when I was, somewhat well rested, and tried to go to sleep again. At first, once again I freaked out. Then, I started trying to control it again. I found I could skip the hypnagogic state, and just go straight to sleep paralysis. And I also found, that it was easier to move now. During the most recent sleep paralysis episode, I sat completely up in my bed, and tried to get out of my sleeping bag and walk. My legs wouldn't move, but my arms felt somewhat lighter, I could move my torso, I had some control of my waist, and I could sit up. Try as I might, I still can't get my legs to move before I woke up... Yet. But who knows, maybe with time, I could walk around in 'sleep paralysis'. Lol. Anyway, as I said before, any feedback? Thoughts? Opinions? |

Hi I kinda had the same experience. I have had sleep paralysis since I was 19. It is a very terrifying experience. I too would wake up unable to move or scream I could see what was going on around me I would fight with all I had to move or scream and I would end up falling back to sleep exhausted by the fight. It's like you have no control of your body. I use to think my soul was being attacked or that my should left my body. I don't think that now. I'm still unsure of the reason why this happens but I don't fear it anymore I give into it well I did the last 2 times because someone told me not to fear it just to go with it. So I did what happened is crazy to even post on here but it was amazing also. If you would really like to know send me a note and I will write you with that experience. Now about the shadow guy I have also seen him I never thought that the sleep paralysis n the shadow guy were connected until reading your post. I did start to see him when I was 19 too tho so you might have something but I always seen him while I was wide awake. The first time I seen him was in front of my mother in laws bedroom door he would just stand there all the time I feared him. Then when I moved I would see him but he felt different to me. I didnt fear him and he never stayed still he always went from the living room to my room or the bathroom to my room and then just disappear. I kinda felt like it was a natural even tho I know it's not. I have moved again and still I would see him always going to my room and then disappearing. I don't know what he is or why he's always around. Nobody else can see him except my best friend she seen him once and my daughter woke up last week and told me she woke up and seen a shadow guy sitting on top of her and she screamed and he got up and left. I didnt know what to tell her. She is very fearful of things like dolls and things that aren't scary at all and I didn't want to scare her by telling her I see him too so I told her maybe she had a dream. I didnt know what else to tell her. anyways that is my experience

Anyway, I don't know about you seeing these things while you are awake. I really can't give you any advise about it... As for your daughter, that sounds alot like classic sleep paralysis. I'm probably not the best person to look for advise on raising kids from, but I know knowledge helped me come to terms with this stuff. Quote:
Anyway, thanks for the feedback, and Wolfjk, thanks for linking that thread. It looks like a wealth of information. |

ok, well i live in l.a. in an older building. i have dealt with paranormal when my aunt died as has my family. so in that sense i am a believer.
well i have two cats that from time to time seemed freaked out and scared watching something fly around the room. there is nothing i can see. one day i took a pic (for i couldnt see anything with naked eye) where my cat was looking during one of these nights...and i got a white glowing head with dark eyes and mouth,...starring right at me from window while i sat on the couch. i realized something else was with me here. whether its alien or a ghost i wasnt sure at that point. just a little freaked since i do live alone. well, i never bring guys over im too picky and busy. i met someone who was more of a friend that is a model (calvin klien, dolce gabanna, etc). of course i had a crush on him. he is beautiful!! after this... sleep paralysis went out of control. this is first incident: went to bed. before i knew it was felt like i was being held down. not with physical arms, but with some force i cant describe. my brain was awake, i was awake but was unable to move, open my eyes nor speak. it got worse, i then heard this nasty hateful voice say "oh and he is a calvin klien model"... at that point i felt something shoved up my private area (where children come out) and then i gasped breathing in air. i then started to pray and it went away. i went to get my cats so they could sleep with me. second incident: as soon as i started feeling it come on, i felt litterally under attack. i didnt want to go through it again so i immediatley started to pray & struggling to break from it. it worked. consulted a psychic of mine...who has worked with investigators finding missing children, celebrities, ...she is real. i told her of events and seeing the ghost head in picture...she told me that there is a ghost in my house that has a crush on me. great thats the last thing i need right now. well, i believe it. what i dont appeciate is that *ucker sexually assulting me. cheri mancuso my psychic (go ahead look her up)...said she has experienced the same thing in 2 other homes she lived in minus the sexual assult. so to those that feel you are being attacked, you probably are by a ghost. if it helps, when i bring my cats in my room i not only feel safe, but it for some reason stops. so if yall have pets have them in your room with you! |
