Unhappy Recurring Nightmare, Causing Depression

I have this similiar, almost exact nightmare every single night, I mean there is not a night that I lay there physically and mentally trying to pull myself out of this horrrible, situation. I have my fiance or my mother, whoever I am sleeping next to wake me up if I start moving my hands or body violently, or my breathing starts getting heavy, or I have any change physically, while I am asleep. I usually, frequently wakeup hysterical, I always cry when I wakeup, and every morning I feel as I have never even slept at all, and I am fully physically and mentally drained. This has taken a toll on my consious, daily life now, and I feel very weak, drained, depressed, and in a state of fear. In the dream there are always a immediate family member, either my mother, brother, or father, and there is always either a single male or several males. I am always in great fear of the male stranger and either they are violently torturing or trying to kill me or the family member, or the family member is torturing or trying to kill the male figure or figures. In the end or climax, I am always hiding and trying to get away from either the male figure or one of my family members, and I am unable to physically move or getaway, and I scream and scream and nothing ever comes out. I have never had a voice or am able to speak in any of the nightmares I have had all my life actually. I have great anxiety and frustration from the fact that I cannot speak, even though I am trying, or I am unable to move or run in every nightmare/dream I have. It has taken a huge toll on me in the years in my aging, weight, and mental stability, and in my relationships with my family and with previous boyfriends, and my current (almost not) fiance. I do not know what to do, I am so tired, worn, and depressed, and would like any information I can get on what this all means, and why its so frequent and reaccuring. I am waiting to go to a local sleep clinic, that has been referred by my doctor, and I cant take sleeping pills for they intensify and make these nightmares, a hundred percent worse. Thank you and waiting to hear back!!

Default Sleep clinic

Hi Shorty,
I think you are doing the right thing going to the sleep clinic. It sounds as if you have a lot of sleep paralysis dreams. That is when you can't move or can't scream. Your dreams are designed to wake you up.
A bad sleeping position or overweight can cause your problem. My experience is that we all have these violent dreams, most of us don't remember it.
I am sure they will get to the bottom of your problems when they watch you sleep and come up with the right remedy.
Cheers Wolfjk

Default Face your attacker

Sorry to hear of your nightmares. I can understand how desperately you want some peaceful sleep. From my personal experience, I have found one way of getting rid of the fear of being chased. First a question for you. At any time during this experience do you realise that you are in fact dreaming? Are you lucid? If so, it takes a huge amount of courage, but to stop it, you turn and face your attacker. It’s not so easy, as you have to overcome the fear of whatever is chasing you, and have faith that it is a dream and you will not be hurt.

A good practice for this is meditation, or even just simple breathing exercises when you are awake. If you can concentrate on your breath during the dream, you can control your fear to a certain extent. For a while I was killed in horrific ways during my dreams. I didn’t run from it, but just breathed through the experience, knowing I could be harmed. It was not pleasant, but somehow better than the fear of running, running. I also visited a reflexologist who was also a healer. She could see there was a disincarnate being causing mischief for me. She got rid of it, and I have never suffered from these death dreams since. I don’t know if you believe all this, but it may be worth finding a good healer to visit.

Do you watch violent TV and play video games? If so, these will certainly effect your dreams.

Good luck, I hope you find peace in your dreams soon. I know how tiring the nightmares can be.

Hi I am very sorry that you are suffering like this. I would like to let you know that I am a christian I am not sure what you believe in. I have typed out pslam 91 from the old testament what God promise's even if you don't believe in God I urge you to try this for at least a week to see if it makes a difference which I believe it will.
say a short prayer like "Dear Father come into my life and help me, In Jesus name Amen". Also read psalm 91 before going to sleep at night.
Please try this it is worth a try and please let me know how you are getting on.

God our Protector

Pslam 91

Whoever goes to the Lord for safety,
whoever remains under the protection of the almighty,
can say to him,
"You are my defender and protector.
You are my God; in you I trust"
He will keep you safe from all hidden dangers
and from all deadly dieases.
He will cover you with his wings;
you will be safe in his care;
his faithfulness will protect and defend you.

or sudden attacks during the day
or the plagues which strike in the dark
or the evils that kill in the daylight.
A thousand my fall dead beside you,
ten thousand all around you,
but you will not be harmed.
You will look and see how the wicked are punished.

You have made the Lord your defender,
the most high your protector,
and so no disaster will strike you,
no violence will come near your home.
God will put his angels in charge of you
to protect you wherever you go.
They will hold you up with their hands
to keep you from hurting your feet on the stones.
You will trample down lions and snakes,
fiece lions and poisonous snakes.

God says "I will save those who love me
and will protect those who acknowledge me as Lord.
When they call to me I will answer them;
when they are in trouble, I will be with them.
I will reward them with long life;
I will save them".
