On saturday morning my landlord was coming round to my flat to remove a couch first thing in the morning, so i had to make sure i was not going to sleep in so i set my alarm..
I went to bed friday night after having one can of beer, went to sleep and in the morning i thought i woke up and heard the front door opening, i was paralysed though so couldnt do anything about it. Then i felt someone come into the bedroom and move towards me, i felt someone touching me but i was still paralysed and couldnt do anything about it... I knew it was a dream because i have had this many times and although it is always terrifying i try to relax and get it over with. It hasnt happened to me in a while but in the past i can usually stop the panicking and then start controlling it. |

I've had this too.
I was in hospital, it must be 8 or 9 years ago. I couldn't sleep so they gave me a sleeping tablet. I remember waking in the night but I couldn't move, then this man came in and touched me. It scared me so much that I've never taken a sleeping tablet since because i thought it was a side effect and it really happened. So I've been too scare to have another sleeping tablet because of a dream? I don't ever want to dream like that again, how can I stop them or get out of them if i do get another one? Vicki |

I think the key is to try and not to panic. Tell yourself to relax and that it is safe. Once you are relaxed try and focus on moving a finger to try and get yourself to wake up. I used to be affraid of them, but now i wish i could have more of them so i could try and control it more. Unfortunetly, when i used to get them a lot, it was because i was a very heavy drinker and i dont want to get back into that.
It seems though that, alcohol or drugs of some sort seem to bring it on... |

I lived in the basement of my house, having rented the rest of the house to make ends meet. It was a small room, connected to the laundry room, which had scrap rugs over the concrete floor. The head of the single bed was in the right corner, the door to the left, a window to the right. When my mother died, I was lying on my left side, facing the wall and window, back to the door. I knew I was alone, but I heard footsteps coming to my room. (Remember, there were rugs on the laundry floor (and dirty clothes, for that matter)). I heard the door open, and it felt like someone had knelt down on the edge of the bed, (I felt the mattress sink) the knees and upper legs pressing against my back in a gentle way. I was kind of scared at hearing the footsteps, but I didn't move an inch when the door opened. When I felt the pressure on my back, I felt kind of reassured. Soon I snapped out of it, lying in the same position, but then I knew I was really awake. I imagine my mother came for a visit to reassure and comfort me. (I think if I were touched in any other way, say a hand on my head, I probably would have panicked. |

I guess in situations like that it is very comforting, if only all the experiences could be like that. Although i guess its what your mind thinks about the situation at the time.
