Default Is this a lucid dream?

I remember this dream clearly. This was a few years ago... I had just broken up with my ex-boyfriend. I was really hurt because he cheated and betrayed me. In the dream there was a figure of a man with no face and a hood on. This person was standing at my bedroom door just watching me. I was laying on my back in the bedroom both in the dream and in real life. I was trying to wake up from the dream but could not wake up. I was also trying to scream in the dream but could not. Then to my left there was a wall and there were these figures on the wall they were black one small medium and large. They kind of resembled black ghosts. I was also trying to wake up but couldn't? What does this mean?

Default Re:

I've had a few of them, and they are terrifying! I was told by a well known psychic that what I experience is a leaving of my body when I'm asleep and traveling to other planes. When something startles the physical body and start waking us up we haven't yet merged back into it with our astral body, that's why we can't move, see dark forms at the doorway, hear odd types of noises like groans or screams. I have to tell myself to calm down and wake up, otherwise I'm terrified. The only way to describe a dream like this is to compare it to those "Freddy Nightmare on Elm Street" movies...where the girl is thinking she's awake the whole time but she's actually having a bad dream...what do you think?

From what I have read in reference to this kind of experience, I believe this occurs not when you are awake, but either when you are still 'astral' or 'lucid', or when you are still in the hypnapompic state the state right before you are waking up. In these states of mind, whatever you are thinking becomes your reality immediately, especially if it is accompanied by a strong feeling. If you become fearful for any reason during these states, you could very well produce scary creatures and such.
If you feel paralyzed at times when you are waking up, it could be due to 'sleep paralysis', which is actually when your mind wakes up before your body does. When you go to sleep your muscles become paralyzed to protect you. Sometimes while you are waking, your body takes a minute to follow, and you get scared because you feel like something is holding you back. I think it's entirely possible for one to create such creatures in this state as well. I've had this experience, I used to think I was being possessed! But it is a normal thing, it is nothing to fear. Just remain calm if this ever happens, and wait for your body to get the message.

Also, this kind of experience occurs most frequently while sleeping on your back.

Question

hi, I just want to say OMG, I was online looking for information about a dream exactly like the one you had. I was sleeping on my friends couch, the light from the laundry room was coming through the door in the hallway. The dining room was separated by the couch, and the sliding door was open, screen. It was like I woke up, from hearing all I can describe as creepy noises, I was still laying on the couch, all I remember seeing is 4-5 black figures, with no faces, wearing hoods, starring at me. It freaked me out and I woke up, but I could not move, it was dark no lights were on. I felt paralyzed, I tried with all my might to move my arm, and after what felt like ten minutes, I finally moved my arm. Then I woke up, but this time for real. Only way I know it was for real was that I could see the light coming through the door in the hallway, which was not present in my dream. At least I hope it was a dream.

The part I find really weird, is that we both dream about shadow type figures wearing hoods, with no faces... Very odd.

I am not so hopeful. We'd have heard about it long before now.Plus, I would probably have had to pay for a computer upgrade.

Not really......It's a pretty common dream.
