Lucid dreams are a horrible affliction I suffer from. I'm not talking about a few lucid dreams here & there or a repetitive dream you're in control of. I am talking about hours and hours of lucid dreams every single night, all night long. I get NO sleep that is not lucid.
When I wake up in the morning I can relate hours worth of dreams. Every detail from colors to building layouts to the exact timeline and people. In these dreams I am conscious. As a result I am in control in many ways. I contemplate and make decisions consciously in my dreams, I change whatever I want. If I start dreaming about something I don't like I can change it, I can change so many parameters, but sometimes I cannot change a situation and I actually FEEL, emotionally, the pain in my dream, and the frustration of not being able to change the situation or figure something out in a dream. My fears and stress in life enter these dreams and I become stuck in a world that is awful. If something truly horrible happens in my dream I consciously wake myself up. The horrible thing is, that I am completely conscious the entire time and can relate every detail when I wake up. It would take several hours to relate my dreams of one night to someone. These dreams affect my mood and make me uncomfortable the next day, and I hate going to sleep because of them. It happens every night. Its awful and I never EVER feel rested. I often experience deja vu because of my dreams and recall them during the day, even ones from ten years ago. I can still remember dreams I had ten years ago, sometimes I have to pause to determine whether it was a dream or real. I have tried 12 sleeping pills, none of which has stopped them. Does this happen to anyone else on this severe of a level? |

I would definately recomend seeing someone about this - be it a physician or whatever. This could be a neurological problem.

Hi sleepishorrid
I understand, I remember my dreams almost every night, although there is not that intensity and lucidity to the extent that you describe... I never tried sleeping pills, as falling asleep was never a problem, rather it's waking up at night after every sequence of dreams. During the day I always think of my dreams and try to analyze them and understand... but I always feel tired and it feels like nothing around me is real. Dreams change my life for the better I believe, or at least it's been really interesting to explore their nature, but - The reason I'm saying this - I don't know what causes these dreams that are hard not to remember, I haven't always been like that, in fact I only remember a couple of childhood dreams. "Dream marathon" (lol) started a couple of years ago, so there must be some kind of explanation. Never found mine, but you should find yours, as it sounds like it's causing too much stress and exhaustion. A professional should be able to help, I wish you courage and good luck |

I am in a similar situation where I lucidly dream most nights.
The very clearest dreams are when I take a sleeping aid. Too much alcohol will also bring on the dreams, as does cheese or a large meal before sleep. The clearest nights are after I have done a hard days work, and go to bed early. So perhaps you are going about it the wrong way. Why not avoid the sleeping pills for a week I have found that ending a dream state can be difficult sometimes. One tip is, whilst you are dreaming, go to your bedroom and go to sleep within your dream. If you thought your dreams were weird, then think again. This will send you down a completly different path within your dreams. You should find a guide within your dreams, and the best one is often yourself. Do not always take your own advice though. Probably confused you, more than I have confused myself |

cheese? this explains a lot...for the past couple nights I've snacked on some cheese before hitting the sack! wow...it only happened when I ate cheese before sleeping. and tbh any time I'm trashed I dream quite a bit too. |

if you are getting these kinds of dreams I would suggest if you do decide to get sleeping pills it be at a low dose. I say this because I as well have VERY vivid dreams nearly every night. To the point were I can feel pain, smell smells, taste things, and about every other sense I can think of. Sometimes these dreams will come and go in spells like.. for a couple weeks strait I can dream these dreams. Break for a couple days and then again.... point is if you take sleeping pills you may find it harder to shake your self from sleep. I have a prescription Trazadone that is a PRN (basically take when needed). I tried to get my self out of a dream and it was difficult.. when i actually awoke my head felt like it was gonna split open and i'm talking literally.... It lasted for hours and the pain was unbearable.
Have you tried doing things before you go to bed... things you like to do .. Like draw or something that takes your attention away from life. This might sound strange but sometimes it works. If your happy in side from doing something you enjoy. Another thing that has helped me sleep quite well is going to the YMCA swim for about 45min to an hour and then a dip in the hot tub till you feel ready, but then I like to swim lol.. but it really relaxes me and makes me feel happy and satisfied. This does not ALWAYS work but it should give you enough break time to be able to handle it. Also it helps if you don't think about what your going to dream about when you go to sleep. Or think about much anything in general really. Last edited by JijiDream : 07-04-2009 at 03:49 PM. |
