Finally!!! 2-3 years later...
Though technically not a lucid dream, I didn't know where else to post my experience, so here it is. It started with my dream last night, a strange one at that, but nothing out of the ordinary for an overtly imaginative mind. The dream started as if it was an infomercial for a new fishing lure in a lake. I don't know where exactly I was, but conceivably, I was close to home when considering the company I was with.
From the infomercial, the dream quickly segued into a bunch of rednecks going mudding in a field with their 4x4s. One had an 87 transa am that didn't quite fit with the theme, but meh. Anyway, from there an argument ensued and quickly escaladed to the point of everyone getting out of their car and trucks, and quickly aiming all sorts of guns at each other. This went on for a few minutes until someone fired a shot and killed somebody. Now I didn't know anyone in the dream, but for some reason I got really sad and angry at everyone because of this untimely death. So what better way to solve the dilemma than to deal some damage of my own. I won't go into detail here, but lets just say I slaughtered them one by one (which is really out of character for me as I am the most passive person I know).
After that the dream enterred the third scene which consisted of me laying on my back on someones kitchen table. Just as I got my bearings, I watched the tables owner swing a sharp object at me, quickly and cleanly decapitating me. Although normally when I die in a dream, it just goes black or I wake up, this one kept going. After losing my head I uttered a last phrase (something along the lines of "it eats to make it stronger") and proceeded to twitch violently. The twitching resulted in my soul leaving my body and me coming to the realization that I had died (at this point I thought I was dead in real life). So as I became lucid, I decided to test the new found abilities of my soul. I tried to fly, but inadvertently told myself to jump, which I did and slowly I floated back down to the floor.
This is when I realized I was having a obe. I knew what it was immediately as I've had them before. But this one was much more exciting, and much too short. For the first time in any of my obes I was able to move where I wanted to, so I went to check on my wife. She was getting ready for work. I watched her for about 20 seconds before the excitement got the better of me and I was pulled back to my body and woken up.
I was so excited because not only did I finally feel completely liberated in my obe, but it was also the first one I've had in almost 3 years... and I've been trying on a nightly basis. I can't wait to get back in bed tonight because last time I was having obes, they came quite frequently (nearly a dozen in about a year), so hopefully that trend will pick back up and I can continue the soul searching I started years ago. Anyway, just wanted to share my story. Thatnks for reading.
