I've recently been hit with a nasty bout of insomnia which has knocked my lucid dreaming on its head. I did manage to have one the other night but the whole looking at my hand thing didnt work, anyone got anymore tips which dont involve drinking heavily or taking pescrip drugs?

Hello Chalkeypenny,
Sorry to hear you have been suffering from insomnia. I’m not too sure what you do about it, but try taking a look at anything that could affect your sleep. Do you know of any reason why you are not sleeping? Try meditating before sleep. Are you anxious about something? Are you now anxious that you have not had a good sleep? What do you watch on the TV? Do you play any computer games? Both bad for sleep. Do you exercise? Exercise is good for sleep. Don’t eat just before sleep. I had insomnia once, but it was self inflicted. It was awful, so I can sympathise with you. Try not to think about lack of sleep, it makes it worse. I hope you get a good sleep soon.

I used to be a chronic insomniac, suffering from the sort of evil, long-lasting insomnia where your mind churns until only an hour or two before your alarm clock goes off, night after night. I finally figured out that I had an potassium imbalance (no thanks to any doctor) and have found potassium supplements to be extremely helpful. With modern eating habits, you are likely in a similar boat. I take up to 5 pills a day, at 90-99 mg, with the knowledge that 4700 mg of potassium per day is "ideal" for an adult. The number of supplements keeps me well under any risk of potassium overdose, but is enough to ward off the more senseless forms of insomnia (I still can not sleep before interviews, but at least there is a reason for those particular episodes of insomnia).
