Default White Noise

A question for any lucid dreamers out there. Had anyone heard what I believe is called white noise, between waking and sleeping? In particular picking up a radio station in your mind. You can actually hear the music or DJ very clearly. Or another sound which is a cross between a hum and a buzzing sound.

I'd be interested to know.

Smile sometimes

I have been able to recap the 11 o'clock news to my husband before when I've left the tv on even though I was asleep way earlier. But it wasn't like I was listening to a tv It was like I was dreaming and the newscasters were in my dreams. I don't know if this is the kind of incident you are interested in hope it helps.
Thanks
MJ

Thank you for your reply MJ. Although I think you had the TV on whilst you were asleep. So you could hear it still whilst you were sleeping. This is kind of like picking up the radio signal in your mind, whilst inbetween sleep and waking up.

Dear TJBEASON
Thank you for your reply. It’s really interesting to know that you have also had this experience. I also do not know anyone who has experienced this. Whenever I mention it, I have been told that it must have been a vivid dream.

But you can hear the music or the DJ so clearly. Do you think whilst we are sleep our minds can tune into another frequency? Any ideas will be much appreciated.

Sleep well.

I've gotten that buzzing sound/feeling in my head before. But it wasn't like picking up a signal, it was more like hearing something far away but sounding as if I was right next to it.

The worst was during this incredibly vivid nightmare I had about eight years ago. It was one of those ones that seems real, there was some old woman, ghostly-looking being that came to me while I was sleeping. In my dream (all though it seemed like I was awake...) I awaoke and pulled the blanket over my head, because I was so scared of this thing. Then she/it ripped the blanket down and pulled me into the air. I felt like I was floating, like this thing was trying to take my soul, kill me. It was horrible. I started feeling like I was losing the battle, that this thing had me...

So I think I started praying or something, can't quite remember. Either way I have a train that runs by my house a couple miles away. You can hear it go by but it's not loud at all. Well, while I was struggling with this thing, I couldn't really see anymore, like my mind was cloudy and confused, but I heard the train, start to come by.

What was wierd was that it was the loudest most intense sound I'd ever experienced. I didn't just hear i,t I felt it, like the tracks of the train went right through my mind. It didn't even really sound like a train, more like a buzzing sound to the millionth degree. I could feel the sound/buzz go through my whole body.

Whatever the reason, it woke me up. I was alone in my bed. I sat up looked around, there was no crazy looking ghost lady...but my blanket was down by my legs. And I heard the train going by, distant and soothing, barely even noticable really.

This was one of the two worst, realistic nightmares I've ever had. And in both of them I've had this wierd sorta buzzing/sound thing of an almost epic level go of in my head. LOL who knows....

Wow, that sounds like a terrifying experience. Just out of interest, did you feel like you were out of your body? What I also find fascinating is that it was all so real and not like a normal everyday dream.

Your description of the train sound is also really interesting. It sounds quite intense. I know what you mean about feeling sound though. If I am in an extremely relaxed state and there is a sound, I feel it as well. Just out of interest, are you having any problems with your normal everyday hearing? Is one of your ears blocking, a bit like being under water?

I know the buzzing sound you mean. Strange isn’t it? I have no idea what it is. A couple of weeks ago, I actually heard a cross between a hum and a buzzing just as I was waking up. It actually continued whilst I was awake for a short while as well. This was really strange for me, as I have never heard such a thing whilst being awake.

You sound like you have a very active dream life. All very interesting, but also very tiring isn’t it? Sometimes I wake up feeling like I have had no sleep at all.

I did feel out of my body during the dream. Almost like the ghost figure pulled me right out of it. That's what made it scary... a sort of "well I guess this is it" Type-of-moment. That's the nightmares that are hard for me to forget. The ones that seem like they really happened. The ones I still wonder about to this day. And I've had quite a few in my time.

As far as my hearing goes it's not the best (I play rock music to loud) But i've noticed that when waking from a dream my hearing seems WAY better then normal. A ticking clock that I never notice will sound extremely loud etc...

And yes I do have a very active dream life, and I don't always like it. It IS tiring. Sometimes I do just want to sleep a peaceful night's sleep. it happens once in a while but not all that often.

I've actually had a similar experience to that. Mine wasn't quite as frightening. There was a old lady with a sack, and she kept opening it to reveal these gems or maybe worthless stones. I don't know, but I got the feeling they were valuable. Whats weird is when I woke up the lady was still standing there at the side of my bed with her sack. Even weirder is the fact that I can still describe everything about the dream and I couldn't of been more than 7 years old. I'm 26 years old now. I've even mistaked the dream for a actual childhood memory, and questioned my mom. aunts, uncles, and grandma about the dream.

Not sure that even fits in, but I felt inclined to share it.
