I've heard this somewhere too. That most people dream in black and white. Yet all my recorded dreams [ie, in my Journal] indicate mine have colour and usually sound too. And any people I've spoken to about dreams, don't seem to dream in black and white either. Or, at least don't admit to doing so... .

So where did that come from in the first place? It would be interesting to find out whether people in the early days of cinema did dream like that, and without sound... . And whether colour movies, then TV, had any influence on dreaming patterns... .

Curious. Jon.

well i am aware of colour, sound, and smell! I talked to a blind woman and asked her how she dreamt and she spoke of the sounds of things i.e. the 'sound' of walking through grass . I never dream in black and white.

maybe people dream in black & white and when we awake maybe our brains translate them in colour i dont know and i forgot to ask this does a symbol change its meaning depending on what you think of it like does a spider have a different meaning to a person who is scared of them compared to a someone who likes them ?? i should just stop thinking the more i think the harder things get maybe its easier to go through life not knowing

well I would not say that I dreamt in black and white. I would not say that I dream incolor. Its all really mental pictures with me. Things just seem to happen. Though I have had extremely vivid colorful dreams.

Many dreams simply link to very immediate urges and problems which demand attention immediately. If you are sexually aroused when you wake then interpret the dream in that sense. It is likely to link to involve sexual and fleshy emotions. It will include a real sense of excitement.

Ive never dreamt in b/w eithier, ive heard that this wasn't even an issue before colour tv. Maybe coulour tv has enabled us to percieve dreams in colour?

does a symbol change its meaning depending on what you think of it like does a spider have a different meaning to a person who is scared of them compared to a someone who likes them ??

Yes- which is why you shouldn't rely on dream dictionaries. Different symbols envoke different emotions in everyone. We all have different backgrounds and circumstances and so associate things differently. Therefore all dreams are unique to the dreamer.

and i usually know that im dreaming (though that doesnt stop me from getting scared) am i strange ?

You are experiencing lucid dreaming. Its not strange, its fairly common and most people experience it at some point. Lucid dreaming is very useful when you learn to control them. I cant give oyu any tips on that though.
