What do you think about them and do you believe they really work?
When I was younger I had a reoccurring dream for months. I was between the ages of 8 and 9 at the time they occurred. The dream was that I would be standing outside at my school bus stop and my bus would come. I would get on the bus and I would walk all the way to the back of the bus and then sit down next to an older guy who was probably 18 - 20 years old. I sat down on the right side of the bus and he was on my left. I turned to look at him and when I did he vomited and then I looked down and the vomit caught on fire. The fire crawled all the way up to his face and his face and hair were completely on fire. I'm not sure what this dream indicated, but it frightened me as a child. One day, my family decided to take a trip to the mountains and it was there that my dad bought me a dream catcher. I'm not sure if he knew about my dream or not; I can't recall. When we got home, he hung it over my bed and it was right after that that my dream stopped reoccurring. Any opinions? |

It is possible that the dream catcher distracted you from the bad dreams, or you just grown out of it. Cheers Wolfjk

Hm... I'm not sure about that; I mean I can't say I was never bullied, but I did always dread going to school when I was younger. I always lacked a lot of sleep and I would always go to the nurses office and say I didn't feel good. The nurse would tell me to lay down for a little bit and I would go to sleep. She ended up telling my mom after I did that a few times and told her that I needed to get more sleep. As for heartburn, I don't believe I had that.

well the dream mind is very suggestive. If you suggest to it that something is going to happen then it may actually happen. If someone talks a lot about ghosts and things like that and tells you that you will be consumed by some terrible spirit then that can have the desired effect.
One trick is to tell someone that they will have two dreams about you the following night. That person may well have two dreams about that person that night but it will be caused by suggestion . Its simply your mind playing games. If your dad tells you that dreamcatchers work then it maybe enough to calm your fears. ----------------------------- The father of modern dream interpretation is not Freud or Jung but rather Jon Winson. But he never made a single dream interpretation. Instead he conducted research into the mind and established that certain brainwaves (theta waves) only appear during the night time. During the day we store up all new experiences and feelings in short term memory. Then at night we start to work through what happened the previous day and we integrate these into long term memory blocks. Then finally we clear short term memory blocks ready to start the process again the next day. Its likely that any dreams we have are linked to these brain functions. The weird images and feelings once deciphered capture our own feelings and new insights into the world around us. So the dreams then will often link to specific events from the day before and to new ways in which our world has been reshaped. It may simply link to our paranoias and fantasies. If we are focused on something about to happen in the near future then the dreams may link to that. Each dream captures one specific feeling or thought process. I agree with you though. I was thinking more about it and trying to recall what I thought about it when we got one. I do remember thinking something along the lines of, "wow a dream catcher." Of course, at the time I'm unsure whether I got the full concept of what it did, but I remember it being fascinating to me and me making a big deal of it; So, I think I understood what it was supposed to do. I wasn't sure, however, what made it work; I think you are right, but I was curious if anyone knew anything more about them or had any other interesting insights on them.

Hi-
You are referring to spider medicine. The first records (Francis Densmore) document the image in early 1900's -curiously, the same period the term "psychology" is coined in white culture. There is a great on line site providing more and a book title, too. Here's the link. mythopoet NativeTech: Dream Catchers |
