Default Paraplegic walking in dream

A good friend of mine is having dreams of her husband walking (recently left paralized after breaking his neck). He is undergoing extensive rehab and is showing signs of movement in hands and toes. A number of people have been dreaming of him standing up and walking. Wishful thinking or premonision?

I hate to be a 'wet-blanket' here but I do think it is wishful thinking although it is normal. The signs of movement are reassuring and probably invoke such thoughts. My best wishes go out to them all and especially to the injured person.

I would say its wishful thinking. Dreams acan be premonitions. But they are also related strongly to our day to day thoughts. I am sure that this lady will be thinking about any signs of recovery - dreams represent our thoughts

------------------------
Dreams are fascinating but maybe its best not to delve too deeply into their meanings and seek advice. Try not to rely on them as dreams are notoriously difficult to interpret. Yet they do tend to concentrate on recent events and new feelings. You should be able to spot the formation of your own conceptual emotions(with some practice).Deeply hidden inside a dream is some conception perhaps to the previous day. Some slight change in your own thoughts (so concentrate on those changes and see if they maybe featured in the dream).

The main fascination of dreams is how they link to the storage and formation of conceptual feelings. Conceptual feelings must be stored in the brain and perhaps the dreams that we have show how we store such ideas. Instead of using the word STRUGGLE the dream mind instead uses a situation involving a struggle. Instead of using the phrase "closer and closer" the dream mind instead uses the symbol of golf where the object is to get closer and closer to some eventual aim (to pot the ball).

Instead of trying to interpret your dreams just go to your own conceptual feelings and then see what recent thoughts could feature in your reams. Say some argument or situation from the day before. Maybe your dream could link to some task or issue about to be faced on the actual day of the dream?

thats hard to say, my father was a quadroplegic (paralised from the neck down) as opposed to a parraplegic (two lymbs paralised.) and he said he would often dream of walking and my mother would as well. But he never walked and ended up dieing of something un-related at a very young age.

I would not say that this dream will or will not come true, they have made some major advancements with paralised lymbs. If I were the person who was in the dream walking I would just try to see this as encouragment to keep going with physical therapy. Its important to remember that the dream is no guarantee of it happening.

It might also mean something else all together, but I don't really know about the inner meaning of things related to dreams. Best of luck to your friend.

Its important to keep your hopes up. But its also important not to let dreams raise our hopes too much. Dreamsm are important in both senses. They show us becoming unrealistic in our aims. they also encourage us and urge us on. They spot just the right emphasis. If understood properly the dreams will show us trying to raise outr hopes at low points but then damp down our hopes if we become too unrealistic

Default Re: The Psychic Life

Hi-

There is another way to think of this. Think not in terms of either or. Think about it and with it and through it by way of "both and". Both wishful thinking, premonition and something else. Think something that rises up in the man appearing before the woman living beyond the tragic mishap. Think something irrational and marginal, transgressive and untraditional, something expressed beyond the mental and emotional states of d'feet and defeat in the 'underground man'. Imagination is not anything did it not have this ability to re create its own living psyche that fulfills its incomplete expressions.

Also, the psyche's expression is communal and there is such a thing as group dreaming. People who go through things together can dream in common.

I am reminded of something a poet caught in a concentration camp during the hell of the holocaust wrote. He called it "the melting dream."

Dusk; and the barracks, the oak stockade with its hem
of cruel wire, they are floating -see! they melt in the night.
The faltering gaze unlocks our frame of captivity
and only the brain can measure the twist of the wire.
But see too, my love, only thus may the fantasy free itself:
dream the redeemer dissolves the wreck of the body,
and off they go homeward, the whole campful of prisoners. -The Seventh Ecologue, Lager Heidenau

Blessings,
mythopoet
