| General Chit-Chat Kind of like a lounge, just come in and talk about anything at all. Relax, this is like the water cooler at the office. |

Last night I dreamt ; the angels knocked at the door of the bar,
They mixed the mud of the human and touched it with the wine, The dwellers of the pure heavens had a glass of wine with me, The sky couldn't bear the weight of this deposit, They asked me as a mad to bear it, Put aside all the fights among the 72 nations because they didn't see the truth, they took the path of the fiction, Thanks God that we have peace among us, The Sofees had wine while dancing, The fire is not that the flame of the candle smiles with it, The fire is that takes the butterfly's wings. Hafez Iranian Poet , 700 years ago

Murhaba!
"Lo! some we loved, the lovliest and the best That Time and Fate of all their Vintage prest, Have drunk their Cup a Round or two before, And one by one crept silently to Rest". (Omar Khayyam) "A fool dashed onward at a reckless pace Till in the desert he came face to face With one who wore the ragged dervish cloak, And asked 'What is your work'? The dervish spoke, 'Poor shallow wretch, can you not see I faint With this strict pressure of the world's constraint'? 'Constraint'? That can't be right,' the man replied, 'The empty desert stretches far and wide'. The dervish said, 'If there is no strict Way, How has it led you to me here today?' (Farid Ud-Din Attar) As-salaam alaykum! |

Salam!
"May the lover be drunk and infamous all the year. May he be charmed, frenzied, and mad. While sober, we suffer for everything. When we get drunk, we let go of everything". (Rumi) "In the clear dawn, before the east was red, Before the rose had torn her veil in two, A nightingale through Hafiz' garden flew, Stayed but to fill its song with tears, and fled". (Hafez) "If you catch a fragrance of the unseen, like that, you won't be able to be contained. You'll be out in empty sky. Any beauty the world has, and desire, will easily be yours. As you live deeper in the heart, the mirror gets clearer and cleaner. Shams of Tabriz realised God in himself. When that happens, you have no anxieties about losing anyone or anything. You break the spells human difficulties cause. Interpretations come, hundreds, from all the religious symbols and paraboles and prayers. You know what they mean, when God lives through you like Shams". (Rumi) "While mankind remains mere baggage in the world It will be swept along, as in a boat, asleep. What can they see in sleep? What real merit or punishment can there be"? (Sanai) Khoda hafez Asadi (and Satwa)! Last edited by Jennings : 05-27-2007 at 08:27 PM. |

"I'm Missing Me"
Awakes a memory when you're deep in sleep Blood boils and then freezes in your veins. The awoken, long-lost, forgotten memory, captured in the curves of the nerves in your brain, emerges unexpectedly from the mysterious wells of the passed days or years, a compact, compressed, complex feeling that dissolves before your eyes leaving a momentary taste in your mouth, a transient scent in your nose, just a single image, a blurry, old picture of you, no words, no sounds. You wake up. In the mirror you look at yourself, you look for yourself, whispering behind your lips as if attending a funeral, your own, "Where's me? I've changed and I'm missing myself." Nima Yushij Varzandeh (with apologies to Lancashel) to answer your question above, I first became interested in Persian poetry 1949 with my introducation to Khayyam and over the years this interest has expanded to the poems of Islam but especially the ancient philosophers and poets. The one above, of course, is a modern one. Coincidently, my youngest daughter has resided in the Arab countries probably for the past 30 years and is currently in business at Ajman UAE. Heard yesterday from her that Oman (where she previously resided) was struck by a cyclone. Last edited by Jennings : 06-09-2007 at 11:13 AM. |
