Iv noticed, and im sure other have also, that ugly or monstorous characters or creatures in fiction are usualy aquanted with evil or unjust situations, in many works of fiction. (Many quite recent on a disturbing note, disturbing in the sense that fiction is lacking originality in there characters and that creativity may be a thing of the past in 300 years or so foward in humanity, though that may just be a drastict veiw.) Though the exeptions to this intrigue me, the greeks have the god hephatitus who was apparently ugly but was still good at heart often a victim of abuse though, medusa once being buetiful was turned into an frightning being (This being an exeption in the sense that she was turned this way to strike fear, not neccesarilly ugly, more given traits that would make her an opponent you would not want to face).
Now I dont want to see examples of fiction, I want to see the communities veiws on why people usualy equaint ugliness with evil. though if you need an example to justify it you may use it. Forgive my grammer its a school night v.v |

Well its simply that different words are associated with certain things.
Ugly is associated with unpleasant Evil is associated with unpleasant Just leave it at that. I understand your point. But thats the way the human mind sees evil and ugly. One reinforces the other. Beauty is associated with goodness and purity. Its of course not true. There are many good ugly people and loads of evil beautiful people ----------------------------- My Dream Guide http://www.dreamsymbolism.info |

I think it's simple also; good is associated with pleasant; bad is associated as unpleasant. So it is accepted that something/someone good would be beautiful and something/someone evil would be ugly. Now this is a generality of course as good can be unpleasant to look at and evil can be beautiful but this is just the common representation.
That's why heroes and damsels in distress are always good looking and the bad guy is an ogre (sound like any fairytales?)

Its basically a part of evolution. we go for the most attractive mates because we want a better gene pool, at the same time if some one is, ugly or monstros we have a built in urge to avoid them.
also a monstous or ugly person could be that way due to diesease, or sickness. |
