So I've been dating this guy for a while now and we've been talking about meeting eachother's families. I'm a little nervous/scared about the whole situation. The other night I had a dream that he met my family but before he did my Dad and I were arguing about actually driving to meet him. The dream itself is very vague to me... I remember eating a peach gummie before going to pick him up. (yes I know, I have odd moments in my dreams)

Meeting your future in-laws is always a bit daunting! Your subconscious is using your apprehension to solve a problem in your sleep. What problem? you might say! Actually you had indigestion and or heartburn in your sleep. Your subconscious was trying to take your mind off it by the dream story; arguing with your dad, the strange seating arangement and the pre- meeting nerves! Enough to get the adrenalin flowing! Hi Bella,
There was an old movie starring Goldie Hawn and Burt Reynolds, I think, about how this very happy couple were so happy together... (insert shark music here) UNTIL... they decided to meet each other's families. Wow, things fell apart in a heartbeat! It's kind of standard for lots of people to fear meeting the families, I think. It's like you have to find ways to fit in with all these strangers, you know? With all gentleness, I think the peach gummie is a reference to sex, maybe feeling uncomfortable about it in some way, in relation to the family... like what would they think about it? I'm not sure if you were sitting in front of him, like you were in the front seat, and he was in the back seat, or if you were more like in his lap? Your dad was still driving then? Maybe it was just about needing to be close and reassured if you were in his lap, I don't know. In-laws can be difficult to deal with, for sure, but some in-laws turn out to be wonderful too! You won't know until you face it, and if you are going to marry, you'll pretty much need to face it, right? Then you could move far away if you want to!!! I just googled the movie. The title is "Best Friends". Here's what Amazon has to say about it: Amazon.com Art imitates life in this romantic comedy, which casts Reynolds and Hawn as a successful Hollywood screenwriting team. Their harmonious working and romantic relationship goes south when they decide to get married after years of living together. Written by and based on the lives of writers Barry Levinson and Valerie Curtin, the film is a decidedly bittersweet affair: after all, Levinson and Curtin got married, then divorced, just like the characters in the movie. Consequently, there's less real humor than kidding as the relationship develops cracks, chinks, and leaks, before foundering altogether. Still, Reynolds and Hawn have a likable chemistry because neither is trying too hard. Watch for a particularly funny and crass cameo by Ron Silver, as a big-shot director they wind up working for. --Marshall Fine Last edited by IrisRavenstar : 07-25-2009 at 05:54 PM. Dear beLLa*: Welcome to dreamcentral. Thats a nice moniker or site name you have chosen. I can easily see why you would be nervous in meeting each others families. However in doing so you are acting out of responsibility and respect. If you keep these words reponsiblity and respect in your mind when meeting each others families it will go well. As far as sitting in front of your boyfriend in the car that should be done out of respect for your father if he is kind enough to drive you over there. We all need to be ladies and gentlemen in the eyes of others. Best regards
