What does it mean if someone never dreams? Do they have a mental block?

Dreaming is like looking at an iceberg. You can see only part of it. In dreaming, you can only remember the part of the drea that is dreamt when your brain is functioning. That is when you remember what you dreamt. However the main part of dreaming is taken up by bringing the brain to the point when it can comprehend. With many healthy people, the transition comes quickly and there's no need to remember the dream. When something happens in sleep that needs the brain to be near the waking level, but the sleeper also needs the sleep, the subconscious creates a drem that takes your mind of the problem and keeps the sleeper from waking up. Most of the dreams we remember are dreams that woke us up. there are other waking dreams or nightmares that we remember - sometimes for life. Dreaming is a basic life function. It icontrols the sleep, and does the important job of waking. It is mechanical device. Everybody must dream, however there are people who can't recall or remember dreams for different reasons. Generally the more healthy and people who are more physical and less interested in intelligenceremember few of their dreams. As you know being pregnant causes some discomforts and changes the makes the lucky person remember more of her dream! Cheers Wolfjk

Dear writer: I'm somewhat of the opinion, that its more likely you friend does not recall her sleep visions or dreams. Dreams most generally only occur during the R.E.M. (rapid eye movement) sequences of sleep, which most generally only occupies 5%-10% of anybodies sleep time. The R.E.Ml segments are when antibodies are launched into the blood stream to countr minor infections, bacterial, viruses or whatever. Without the R.E.M. segments a person get very sick within a few weeks. Another factor may be that if a person is geneticaly designed to be a night person , and their work or training routines require them to be up at early morning hours. Sleep would definitely be a problem.

I have read reports that say that some people genuinely do not dream. About one percent of people never dream. Its been proved with monitoring of the brain during sleep.
But most people who say they do not dream actually do. They simply do not remember their dreams. People who do not sleep suffer very badly. Sleep deprivation can result in serious problems. It seems that sleep is essential but maybe dreams not so. But I tend to believe that sleep dreams do tend to link to those essential brian processes that take place during sleep --------------- A dream guide to help you understand what has triggered your dreams http://www.dreamsymbolism.info A dream dictionary based upon hundreds of real dreams Dream dictionary symbols - How to analyse and interpret dreams |
