Hi, i hear people say they can do what every they want in their dream once they know it is a dream. I can never control myself. its more of a movie that i watch. Sometimes its 1st person and other times its 3rd person but i can never control myself or the thing I do. and the backgrounds are usually unclear. Is this weird compared to most peoples dreams or are your dreams the same way?

Dear sir: you ask a very interesting question. From what I had read maybe 20 years ago none of us dream very much during the sleep process. The sleep process itself is more of a balancing act wherein liquid levels in the body tend to balance themselves. The theory being that people once were sea creatures and perform better in a lateral position than they do in an upright position. Some validation of this situation comes from information, prior to Noahs flood when earth was covered in a mist, people lived several hundred years. ,At any rate the most vivid dream segments occur during REM (Rapid Eye Movement) brain wave patterns which is a biochemical process. Its doubtful any of have much control over those segments. Another factor is if a persons genetic makeup is geared to be a day or night person. Night peoples energies do not usually peak till around 9p.m. at night and they are basically asleep during the morning hours. No night person will do well on a daytime schedule either at school or employment. Altho its quite the normal thing to frame our mindsets prior to sleep, it isn't until early in the morning hours when REM sleep occurs.

Well i never control myself, it is always 1st Person. I'm not sure if there is a way to control yourself in a dream, as dreams are memories and thoughts that have sub-consciensly picked up in you're mind.

For me It's usually like you said, 1st or 3rd person view, but like a movie. In some dreams though, I have been doing the acting and it was more like waking life, taking in the surrounding with my senses. I'd guess that people usually only do the acting when they are lucid, but I could be wrong. If your interested in lucid dreaming, you should check out the section for it here.>>> http://www.sleeps.com/forums/lucid-dreams-dreaming/ Take care. - Manny |

...is to follow this simple step. Once you are "conscious" or aware that you are dreaming, bring your hands into view. You see, if you are able to achieve this first step, the rest will come naturally. You must be able to take control of your own dream-state "appendages" before you will have any actual influence or control within the realm of dreams...
Once you have mastered this, the next logical progression is to master movement within the realm. Some would cynically recommend some fanciful type of transportation such as "astral projection" or "teleportation". The former is like comparing apples and oranges, where as the later is fine but I liken it to the difference between taking a plane somewhere as opposed to taking a train. One is much quicker, but you see (and learn...) a lot less along the way. SO, I would submit to you that the only way to go (insert insane cackles here) would be... Learning to fly! Its simple, and quite gratifying... Just jump for the ground my friend... And miss. |

During dreams, I can become fully aware that I am dreaming, and I can hear my self saying "ok you are dreaming. notice something directly, and touch it."
As I touch something, I will return to waking consciousness. It's very difficult to stay in two reality modes for me. I do have better success in the pre awakening stages. I often see written words scrolling in front of me, and I can grab entire sentences, but I awaken quickly. It gives me a sense of being between two worlds. Well, I guess I am between two worlds, or just different "rooms." |

My dreams are basically the same as yours. Sometimes details are clear or muddled, the dreams are 1st or 3rd pov and like movies, you play your part. One way to establish some control would be to ask a family member or someone close to you to help. I had a brother who told me if i saw him in a dream he would give me a million dollars, if i asked. Keeping this thought in my head i knew it would eventually trigger a somewhat lucid dream. It did about 3 times. Lucid dreaming takes baby steps and i'm still learning to get a handle.
