I've always been interested in reoccurring dream characters. A good friend of mine would dream of a faceless man. The man would ask him questions, leading him to information that his subconscious picked up on and his conscious mind missed. In that case, the reoccurring character helped him to avoid and to get out of trouble more than once, and only ever showed up when he was needed.
Sometimes it's hard for me to define what a reoccurring dream character is. I have many dreams with similar looking people, with similar personalities but only one character that comes into different dreams exactly the same every time. In lucid dreams, I always see a black cat before I'm aware I'm dreaming, and the black cats show up in my dreams often. But is it a "dream character"? Probably not. My only true RDC is a young black kid, maybe around 9 or 10 years old. He's physically young, but his presence and the look in his eyes suggests age and wisdom. His eyes are glazed over and his voice sounds a little rough, but sure and confident. The process in those dreams is always the same: the kid leads me to something, sometimes it's a problem I have to fix(in the dream), sometimes it's to see or hear something, but it always leads to understanding. And afterward he always lights a cigarette for himself and me. This RDC only shows up when something is really bothering me or when I'm in a bad situation. I'm interested to hear about everyone's dream characters. Physical descriptions, personalities and what their usual process is inside your dreams. I look forward to hearing from everyone. - Manny |

A reoccurring character I've had in many of my dreams was a little boy around the age of 6 or 7 named Samuel. He was like a guardian that helped guide me through everyday situations I encountered and communicated to me through dreams. Also, whenever I had nightmares, Samuel was there to help me find a way out.

It's pretty interesting how similar my character is to yours. It seems like they both act out the same roles in our dreams too. Does Samuel remind you of anything/anyone in waking life, or is he something that came out completely random? - Manny |

I found out later on that my mother was pregnant with a son and she had a miscarriage. The little boy in my dream named Samuel is my dead brother.
Sad to say, I never heard from Samuel again after I found out who he really was. Maybe he wanted me to find out and thats why he was there. |

Dear writer: I think its quite commendable you have an 9 or 10 year old for a spirit guide. Very young people frequently have more sense than adults do. I'm not sure whether a black cat could act as a spirit guide or not, altho I certainly think its possible. Dismissing folklore and symbols, which is advisable, let us examine what we know about cats. Cats have excellent night vision most likely an elevated sense of smell and hearing also. The meaning of the cat in your dream would appear to be the following. Prior to meeting up with you the cat has scouted both the physical and psychic planes and made the determination that you are in safe territory for deep sleep. Secondly the cat will remain sentry during your sleep. If a physical threat to your physical or psychic being as well as those you care about appears on the near event horizon it will reappear in an agitated state and wake you up. I think I'm pretty correct in this diagnosis. To test my diagnosis lets try to test the cat for its responsiveness. I wiill project an imaginary threat into the 4th demension, which will be pulsed down to the cat. Remember the threat is a total fabrication, but the cat will be blinded to that fact. To achieve your part in this test, you will have to take care to conceal from the cat a test is on the near event horizon. Sounds like fun, huh?

That's pretty amazing to read that. I wonder if many other people have had similar experiences. My own RDC, isn't really related to any one person or thing, aside from looking physically like a kid that would be from the city I was born in. His personality on the other hand, is an even bigger question mark. Karmicresponse I'm not really sure what you're talking about to be honest. I really don't know what a spirit guide is or what you mean about the 4th dimension, but if you're serious then could you please explain it in a different way? As for black cats, that goes back a pretty long way - my mother found out she was pregnant with me after a stray black cat my parents took in started patting at her stomach and getting close to it all the time. Ever since I can remember, I've always dreamed of black cats often(and never in a negative way). Also we just took in another stray black kitten a few months ago. It seems like black cats keep coming up with me huh? - Manny Last edited by MannyAnalogue : 06-30-2009 at 12:16 AM. |

An excellent site on animal guides and spirit helpers:
HTML Code:
http://www.sayahda.com/cycle.htm Black cats do have a reputation for evil or negativity, but it's generally unwarranted, imo. People get scared of the color black, as it so often refers to evil or unconsciousness, and nighttime when the sky is black can be scary, but black, like everything in this world, is dual in meaning, and can mean more positive things like potential as well. I once had a fat black cat, like a Kliban cat, named Licorice, who was the most loving cat and loved sucking on ear lobes while he snuggled. It was his favorite thing. I rather miss having cats about, but I developed a severe allergy to them, sadly. If you check CAT on the site above, one thing they'll tell you about black cats is they absorb the negativity around a person, and that makes sense for your dream black cat as well, much as wearing naturally black stones will protect from negativity. He is there for a purpose. recognize him as an animal guardian, even name him if you like. He'll stick around, I'm sure!

I can relate to this somewhat.
I recall a character from one of my dreams who was definitely a spirit guide of sorts. He had a presence that was incredibly powerful. As soon as I saw him in the dream in question, I knew I'd seen him in other dreams before but had forgotten them. Anyway, you can find it here in my dream blog. When I had the above dream, I was going through an extremely rough patch and this character inadvertantly helped me, not so much by anything he said or did, but just by being there. Also, as I explain in the blog, felt this guide knew me very well and even though he was there to help me, he was also not to be messed with.

I am in a desperate search for answers. I am Catholic and I was blessed with special gifts. though at times I feel are more like curses. My Brother-in-law knows of this and came to me in confidence that he has all of his life as far back as he can recollect had these terrifying nightmares of a Demon coming to him in his dreams. It happens about once a month. He walks up to someone and they look human from behind, but when they turn around to face him it is a demon. No eyes, all black almost like staring into an abyss, a very long snake-like tongue and when this creature faces him he becomes crippled and can't wake up. He actually cries out for his girlfriend and her name is Emily. The most that comes out is "eh" in a shrill. She has to really shake him hard to get him to wake up. The Last time he had this nightmare he woke up and when he opened his eyes he saw an image of the virgin mary directly in front of him.he is a sceptic and has no belief in religion, ghosts, spirituality, or anything of that nature. Now, as he is telling me all of this and I am trying to make sense of it... a motorcycle replica toy that was sitting on a shelf purchased by him for his brother (which is my husband) that had no way of moving feel off of the shelf. My brother-in-law froze in fear yet I was unshaken since my home has active spirits and I am not afraid. I feel a presence and I just know. He made a comment about that being odd that something like that would happen and said very clear, "I don't believe in that stuff... if your ghost then show yourself". Worst thing to do. The bike before he could even finish his sentence was thrown off the shelf and thrown to the ground with force. Now, my home is haunted by children. I did not feel the presence of children. But of something else and I'm not sure what. He is now so shaken up that he doesn't want to sleep at night. He's afraid to actually sleep. I begged him to go to church and speak to our priest. I need help. I fear for his soul and his well-being.

Your dream was very interesting to read mano. The man in your dream seemed to act again in a similar way to my own RDC at different times. The way you referred to him as "not too be messed with" "not human" and "extremely powerful" all fit as well with mine, even though physically he is a young boy. It's the presence he has that suggests that. I was in a pretty bad state myself in a situation where this character helped me to overcome the negativity (even though I didn't realize it until months afterward). IrisRavenstar I'm gonna give that site a look later on probably, after I have more time. I have to say honestly though, that I am a bit skeptic. Still, I never disregard anything until I really look into it and see what it's all about. MyThirdEye I'm not sure what to tell you brother, but maybe you should start a new thread in the other sections. Maybe someone who could help would come across your post there. I'm personally not a Christian or a Catholic, so I really can't offer you any sort of advice on this. To be honest, I'm just another person like your brother-in-law in the way that I do not go to church or share your faith. Don't take this the wrong way though, I have no ill feelings towards Christians or Catholics, but from what I've seen here on this site- they usually do not seem to happy to get help/advice from people outside their faith. I hope that things work out for the best and I will be saying a prayer for your family. - Manny |
