I am wondering why it is I can't fall asleep many many nights...I've had this problem allllll my life I try to go to bed early at times but it always ends up with my waking up very early from a weird dream or nightmare kinda ---so I think my body has built some sort of reverse effect or defense for getting rem sleep ..during the day if i sleep i can sleep completely sound and even dream....i dont dream nights when i sleep .....hardly even ever!!!i usually go to bed around 2-3 in the morning and on good nights i can fall asleep or feel like at least am tired enough to try around 12:00 or 1:00 but that is on my best nights of sleep ...i dunno what to do i've tried natural sleeping pills like melatonin but i always cut them into halves i don't like using the whole pill - i feel it isn't natural to put all that melatonin into my body. and i've tried staying up all night to hopefully be tired the next night and that's just a disaster..when i was younger this wasn't so bad ..but my 28th birthday is coming up and i'm also going back to school for psychology so it requires a lot of studying and scheduling. I 'm not young anymore and i hope to conquer this reoccurring almighty battle with sleep regulation.. (i'm really starting to regret the enjoyment i used to have of when my mother

Hi Crystal,
Melatonin is naturally produced by the body, and is a natural substance that comes from cherries. You can get tablets in differnet milligrams. I find the 1 mg. works great, but when I bought a bottle of 3 mg. tablets, it was way too much! I'd be groggy all morning. I've also tried some 2 mg. time-release ones, because I was waking halfway through the night and unable to go back to sleep. I decided that when I do that, I can just take another 1 mg. one, as the time-release ones are much more expensive. But my point is, they really aren't unnatural. Like me, you may be not producing enough of it on your own. If you really don't like taking the pills, drink a glass of cherry juice before bedtime. If you really want to regulate your cycle, take melatonin or drink cherry juice about a half hour before bedtime, and go to bed at the same time every night. Plan your bedtime to allow eight hours of sleep. I used to have horrible insomnia, and I will say the melatonin seems to have me now sleeping a regular night's sleep, which is a blessing! My dog has finally gotten the idea that she doesn't have to wake at the crack of dawn, or maybe her bladder has just grown enough to not need to go out so early, so I'm getting my dreams back too, since we're sleeping a bit later. I had such a busy dream night last night, but still got plenty of sleep... JOY! You could also try lavender essential oil... mix some in a mister with distilled water and spray it around your bed and on your pillows before you get into bed. It's very relaxing! Lavender tea is as well. Good luck with it! |

Have you tried sleeping with a dim light on?? I was just thinking if you can sleep during the day (I don't know if your room is completely dark during the day though
Also try some soothing background music or sounds... Sometimes that can relax you a bit more than complete silence. I find if I have a lot on my mind it can be hard to fall asleep - almost like there's about half a dozen of my voices talking about EVERYTHING that happened throughout my day.... I got a CD that has subtle bird noises and wind blowing through trees - Sounds like you have your window open during a summer day. Works everytime! I would have to agree with IrisRavenstar on the lavendar - you can get an oil difuser as well and put it somewhere close to your bed (it will fill your room with relaxing lavenar all day and night!) I wish you luck as well ~ |

good idea annie. I use a fan that's on a timer so it doesn't stay on all night, just long enough for me to fall asleep. Mostly because it is SO quiet here I would jump at every noise otherwise. Also, I used to have a tape of thunderstorms. I find those relaxing for some reason.

"i usually go to bed around 2-3 in the morning" What sleep time does that leave you? You wake up tired, go to work tired, come home worn out, and you are a fidggetting nervous wreck by 7PM. However your subconscious will give you a small respite by making you have a nap sometime in the evening! This little nap will sustain you while 1 or 2 am. Perhaps you should try to organise a more relaxing lifestyle? The pills may help temporarily but you realise there is a trade off! Quote:

Here are a couple of sugestions; you can take it or leave it! The other suggestion is: "My latest obstacle is the snoring of my fiance" Whenever he starts snorring and you're awake, you put your hand on his shoulder and apply gentle pressure towards turning him over! There is no need for force, only pressure that you would feel. He will react to it and likely to turn over in bed or change his sleeping position. It is likely that he starts snorring when he lies on his back. A WORD OF WARNING: BE CARFUL INCASE HE IS HAVING A VIOLENT DREAM, HE MIGHT THINK YOU ARE THE AENOMY Cheers Wolfjk
