Ok, I will start from the beginning.
I used to always have nightmares when I was young, everybody does. But they would be the same dreams about thousands of spiders crawling up my quilt towards me, so I would scream and cry sitting on my pillow thinking I could see them still crawling up towards me even though I was awake. Nightmares and dreams stopped all together for a while, and now in teenage years, they have come back. I am a shocking sleeper, around 4/7 hours a night and I hate sleeping alone. I will admit the dreams started again after I experimented with drugs for a few months, but it only happened when I stopped taking them. They were really realistic, I dreamt I was walking in my house and the front door opened, a man saw me and opened the door wider. The wind knocked me down, and I was lying in my hall with this man coming towards me. I am not sure what happened after, but I was lying in my bed wide awake but still dreaming. The man was coming towards me, I just remember trying to move my arms or legs to wake myself up completly but I couldn't. Then I went back to sleep and as soon as I closed my eyes this face just like ran at my eyes, and I shot up in bed with my heart racing. Another night I saw all these coathangers flying over my head and I could hear them, I swear I was wide awake once again but they were still flying over, I got goosebumps all over and I could feel the wind of them going past. These dreams continued again, but stopped for a while. They started again last week, where my dream was so realistic I thought I was in a club in town, and was stranded trying to find my way home. Then I thought I woke up because my friend came in my room, I was talking to him telling him about my dream. Then I actually woke up and was like wtf??! Both of those dreams were so real and ran out to him and was like were you just in the room? Because I was awake and in town, then talking to you about how I dreamt I was stranded. Two nights ago, I had a dream I was getting killed, and punched my arm out and dug my nails into my friends back and scratched her. I only woke up beacuse she screamed at me. My heart was racing and my hand was on her back. Last night I dreamt I was in a car crash, I was struggling to find the brakes to stop the car from crashing. Apparently I was lying in bed, screaming to my friend Dylan, "DYLAN I CANT FIND THE BRAKES, OMG, I CANT FIND THEM WHAT DO I DO." and i was kicking my feet into the bed and jumping about. I woke up at the end of the bed, sitting up straight with my feet on the floor. Stamping my foot on the ground, yelling and moving my arms all over the bed, I guess trying to find the handbrake?? I was literally in tears when I woke up, I was shaking, my heart was pounding and I hated it. I know this is an extremely long thread, but I am really scared. I don't want to sleep by myself.Do I have a sleeping disorder? Thanks to all that help. |

most people have bad dreams occasionally, however your dreams are are out of the ordinary. Dont get alarmed. Visit your doctor and explain your situation. Nowadays there are sleep clinics where you get wired up and beobserved with CCTV. There are some medicines that you can take to sleep better. It is in some peoples nature to dream like you do. The reason you have to see the doctor is that you might hurt your sleeping partner or harm yourself. Meanwhile try to relax before going to sleep, and have only a light snack - toast or something easy to digest. Avoid fast foods, and drugs. Try to go to sleep on your side in acomfortable position. Some of your dreams indicate that you're lying on your back when you have nightmares. Sleeping on your back can cause bad dreams and sleep paralysis. Have a look at this thread:click this You're not the only one with strange dreams. Look after yourself! Cheers Wolfjk

Dreams that u have at night where u feel you are awake and they are very very vivid to the point where u could even have a bruise where u dreamed u hit yourself on something are called stress dreams as my doctor told me. I get them regularly and they are terrifying. If your dreams are like mine then i almost know i am awake like i can almsot tell i am dreaming but there is nothign i can do about it. Sometimes they are so real i wake up in my bed expecting to be somewhere else.
If your dreams are liek this then this is what my doctor told me. When you get so stressed or even if your distracted (you may not even realise it) then when you sleep your body is so physically exhuasted that it shuts down almost as if you are paralysed as you are when your sleeping deeply. However your mind is so packed that it canot switch off thus it cannot filter everyday information making it worse. This is why you have such vivd dreams beacuse your head is actually wide awake but not functioning as it would if you were fully awake. Coz of this i end up sleeping so little a night and if i happen to sleep well i wake up early or every hour and dont sleep again. Alcohol and such i found make it worse obviously and also having sugar before bed that naturally keeps u awake anyway. I spoke to my doctor and he suggested therapy or sleeping tablets or even herbal remedies which have actually helped but herbals are best as they are actualy good for you but therapy is a good thing if you feel you need to difuse someof wot ur mind is storing. hope that helps |

I wouldn't go so far to say you have sleep disorder...yet. Think about the last few weeks or months, how many times have you had a physical reaction to your dreams? This isn't uncommon but shouldn't be too repetitive because it will rob you of the true rest you need and that will only wear you out and bring on more dreams. To me your dreams are about some turmoil you're going through and that rings true especially with the car dream as you have lost control in your dream. Don't be surprised if your partner decides to opt for the couch.
