Hi all,
This is my first post I've been drawn to this website by searching for certain answers, and i've found some of the info very interesting, wondered if someone could assist me with a problem i seem to be having most nights. Basically i've been having dreams like these for years but they seem to be getting much more common all of a sudden. Things like i dream there's a rat inside my bed so i wake up suddenly and jump out of bed searching for the rodent then after 30 seconds or so i think to myself wait its a dream what are you doing get back in bed, it's also been the same when i've dreamt i've lost something so again i wake up in the night and start looking under the bed for it and also under the bed covers. , also i seem to suddenly scream out in the middle of the night from dream thats seems so real. It's all driving my girlfriend crazy, she keeps telling me i need to go for a check up from the neck up, but surely there's not much that can be done to resolve this. Can anyone offer any assistance on to why or how this could be happening or simply what they mean Hope to hear from you all soon Pete |

Hello Pete,
It may be as your girlfriend suggests; perhaps, you should consider speaking to your doctor about a sleep study. However, the dreams you've described may each suggests something different about what may be truly disturbing your restful sleep. Rats in your bed suggests a concern associated with infidelity that intrudes on one's intimate activities. Arousing from sleep to search for something in your dream is how your unconscious self suggests what you may be losing by not studying the content of your dreams; i.e., such dreams suggests there is something in those dreams that could be of real value to you in the physical/material world. I hope this helps.

When you have vivid dreams like you describe, there must be a reason for them. My guess is that you under some stress at present. However your sleeping position or your state of health could also be the cause. For some reason you have to be woken from your sleep. If you take any drugs, or medicine that could make your dreams more vivid. If you carry too much weight that could cause sleep apnea. Quote:
However, looking for a rat under the bed is more likely to be caused by tension or worry at your workplace. Here is some personal experience: I worked in a very noisy place and started with tinitus ( a whistling noise in the ear) I woke up and looked all over the bedroom for bats! Got up made a cup of tea and then I found out the noise was in my ears. I think you can dismiss any meanings to your dreams, as dreams are always responses to what happens in your sleep. Sleeping position can account for a lot; I would start with that first before moving on to other issues. Then you can eliminate that if it persists.
