| General Chit-Chat Kind of like a lounge, just come in and talk about anything at all. Relax, this is like the water cooler at the office. |

I don't know if it has a name really, just think it happens. I have had that happen, it truly sucks.

This normally happens to me when my alarm clock wakes me up.
It's so annoying, really. I can never remember them, ever. :/ |

that happened to me recently, i had this one cool dream, felt important too, but it was still hazy. i was going to write it down to look up the symbols on the internet afterwards but i had to get some groceries before lunch, then i told myself "i can remember the whole thing on the way to the store" then i forgot it.

this is what i do to avoid that feeling.
well alarms screw up my dreaming if i get up to quick i screw up remembering them try laying down and relaxing after you wake up lay their with your eyes closed and concentrate on what you might of been dreaming about. well this works real good for me because i dream 1-7 dreams(not to brag) but because i dream so much thats why it works for me. try it i hope this has helped dont get to stressed out haha :P |

I navigated to this topic because I'm in the same boat: I dream all the time, but I usually wake up with only fragments of the dreams I just had, or sometimes earlier ones if they were profound or vivid enough. The suggestions posted so far are among the best I've found, but there are a few other ideas I've happened across that I'm currently exploring.
-Keeping a regular dream journal is THE most common advice you'll get, but this site (on the Analysis/Interpretations Page) poses a similar option that seems even better. Keep a recorder near your bed & go through the dream out loud instead (quicker than writing so you can hurry up & get back to dreaming), then copy it to your dream journal when you review it later. Regardless of the method, it seems the more you re-play/review a memory, the more details you extract & the more permanent it becomes. -Mind your "Circadian Rythm" (Regularsleep cycles) & your health. It's one thing to recognize a good idea and another thing to actually apply it. Most people don't put enough thought/effort into proper diet, & just eat what's cheap/convenient/tasty. Most put a higher priority on working/partying than getting enough sleep. Perhaps that's why so few recall their dreams. Work is a necessity, so if your line of work doesn't allow for a full night's sleep, try taking "afternoon naps" like children and the elderly do. -Never under(or over)-estimate the power of suggestion. On nights that I stay up later than planned & set the alarm reminding myself that it's imperative that I wake up on time, I'll sometimes wake up moments (even seconds) before the alarm goes off. On days off when I tried suggestion alone with no alarm clock & it really didn't matter if I overslept, it never worked, so it kind of has to personally matter to you. After watching Waking Life, my initial interest in inducing a "lucid dream" was only enough to remind me to look at my hands or flick a light switch 2, maybe 3 times per day & any difference it made in my dreams was as puny as my efforts. Recently I've taken far more interest in the subject of dreaming (thinking, researching, & expirimenting more) & I'm already dreaming noticeably more often and more clearly. -Finally something I haven't found much info about... natural substances that claim to increase dream frequency & recall. When I stumbled upon a site that sells 3 different kinds, I did a little re-search on each & bought the 2 most promising: Dream Herb (Calea zacatechichi) and Xhosa Dream Herb (Silene capensis). The first you make a tea out of and drink at night, but it's the most bitter thing I've ever tasted. I gave it a chance & forced it down for a few nights in a row, a couple different times, & it did affect my dreams a little, but hardly worth the discipline it requires. From what little info I found on the Xhosa, it seemed like the most effective of the 3, but there wasn't much info to find & I can't seem to get the prep right without either a blender or at least more accurate instructions (you mix the ground root with water & blend it, eating the foam that forms on the top, but no matter how violently I stirred it in a glass or shook it in a bottle, no foam would form). Does anyone have any info or experience on these or other natural oneirogenic substances? Last edited by NfoJunkie : 05-20-2009 at 02:53 AM. |
