Although I believe that we should try for a literal interpretation whenever possible, I also believe that the vast majority of our dreams are not meant to be taken literally. Thus, I may be way off the mark, but I believe that a more symbolic – less literal – interpretation of this dream is called for.

Everything and everyone in our dreams must come from somewhere. In most dreams, they come from the unconscious. Some of the most powerful dream imagery comes from the collective unconscious.

In psychology, especially Jungian psychology, a wedding is symbolic of the joining of opposites – sometimes called syzygy. Because it is the joining of opposites, a dream wedding is almost always a good sign.

It is sometimes called the divine union, the royal wedding etc. To me, the thing that makes this dream wedding so unusual is that it is a double wedding.

The white color of the dress is a symbol of purity and spirituality. You are putting highlights or a yellowish-gold or blond color. This is another indication of the spiritual theme of the dream. In our dreams, fair-haired people are typically more spiritually developed.

If these weddings are the joinings of opposites, who are these opposites?
1. In your friend’s wedding, she is probably a symbol of your shadow while her groom would be a symbol of your animus.
  • The shadow is always the same sex as the dreamer and is, in someway, the opposite of the dreamer. An undeveloped shadow would be someone who has all those unpleasant traits that we try to hide from ourselves and others. The more developed shadow has those skills, talents and abilities that are usually dormant within the dreamer.
  • The animus is always male and is only found in the dreams of women. In the course of many dreams, the animus can potentially go through four stages of development. At the first stage, he can be almost animalistic. At the fourth stage, the animus becomes a spiritual guide.
2. In your wedding, you are probably a symbol of your ego. The ego is the center of our consciousness. But, who is the ego’s opposite? I’m not too sure. He could be another symbol of your animus. (To me, this does not seem likely but it does seem possible.) In a few of the dreams that I have read, the dreamer will have a dream spouse or lover. This sometimes happens to a shaman. He or she will marry a person in a dream who then becomes the dreamer’s teacher. The dream spouse will teach the dreamer how to become a shaman. This student/teacher relationship may not limited to shamanism.
