Your only a true Christian if you believe in CHRIST.Just like your only a Buddhist if you believe in Budda. and if you dont believe in EVERYTHING of what CHRIST said then your not a christian. Otherwise you'd be calling him a liar. and I dont care if you have your own religon, thats fine with me because like you said everyone has a given "right" to choose.
I find it a very interesting question. And, certainly, faith is a matter of personal choice. And individual conscience. It is also, I feel, 'fluid'. There are so many 'strands' of Christianity, covering a 'wide spectrum' of ideas. I have mentioned that my family, over the generations, is mixed Protestant and Catholic. I was baptised the former. And was made to attend church as a kid. Till, as a teenager, I questioned my presence there. I felt like a hypocrite. Being in the House of God, but not believing in The Lord. Since then, much has happened in my life to make me 'reassess' things. I think now that there is some kind of Higher Power. Wherever I am, I go into a church, and offer up a prayer - to whoever might be listening Up There. Since my 2002 accident, during which I had an NDE, I've come to believe in angels. [I feel I have a 'guardian'. And perhaps 'met' him four years after that fateful day. Was it a dream? I certainly have had [as my posts show] angelic dreams.] And I think that things do happen for a reason. I have only two superstitions [my Dad and Mum had Catholic mothers who were filled with them!] One is the Single Magpie - usually proven correct. The other is tombs and graveyards. I apologise if I accidently step on the former. And cross myself whenever I pass the latter. I also do this before and after kneeling at an altar. I've noticed quite a few of my posted dreams have religious over- and under-tones. Especially Catholic ones. Maybe that's 'in the genes'... . My dreams may also hint at Reincarnation. Living in the Far East [and visiting Thailand] as a kid had a profound impact on me. [My 'Buddhist' and 'Dragon' dreams attest as much.] So I suppose, overall, I am more 'spiritually inclined' than 'religious'. With a mixed 'belief system'.

a bit cynical there I have the same beliefs about god as you... In the sense that he is all things and the love and stuff. im not one hundred percent sure of him being the christian god, but i feel he isn't upset by me worshiping him in that way. so until i gain some epiphany about him I'll stay christian. nobodys asking you to believe we christians are good people (except maybe the ones that are full of themselves... no wait better word selfrigheous) so stop yelling about actions speaking louder than words, there are labels for everything in our world because it is how our human mind processes everything, nothing to get upset about. time will pass and things shall go as they shall. instead of yelling about disillusion, division and destruction gently go unto the world and calmly open their eyes, bring people toghether caringly, and create, for destruction is a natural part of the cycle of life and cannot be stopped. |

I am not Christian. I do not claim to be one. I was raised to be Christian, but it apparently didn't rub off too good.

Yeah, it's not really going anywhere. People won't answer with an "I am" or "I'm not" or "7,642 of us are actually Christians". This thread just set up thousands of soap boxes for sermons and arguments.
Then again, I can't talk too much because I commented myself. - Manny |

That's a thousand less & yeah it sucks for that other thousand, but on the bright side, your guess was only 1 digit off, so that's pretty cool at least. I'm sorry if my beliefs offend anyone, but this is who I am and what I believe. I think the words of the spaghetti monster speak for themselves & have brought greater meaning and depth to this thread, so if anyone can't see the truth in this, please tell me what it is specifically that you don't agree with. I've gotta tell ya in advance, I probably WILL get offended as well, but arguing can be fun too & seems to have done wonders for other religions, so I'll defend these beliefs to the very end (when I finally will find out that I was right and everyone else was wrong this WHOLE time. Ha!). |
