Hi, I am 23 years old and have been gaining on pounds and this is getting to me. The thing is that after several efforts of exercise and dieting, I don’t seem to get any slimmer! There are many ways to lose weight, but I have exhausted all the ways I know. I have consulted a few people but all of them have been telling me the same thing. It isn’t helping me and only making my fears worse.
Is there some way to make me feel better!!! |

It al boils down to willpower. You must have the resolve to keep to a resonable weight. The best method is to leave the food on the plate! When I was 23 my weight was 150lb At present I'm still 150lb (10st 10lb) There is a slight variation in winter and summer. Your first task is to establish how much you have to eat to stand still. After that you vary your intake of food according to your work and activities. I think it is completely futile to try to lose weight by excersises or dieting. If your work or activities lessen eat less! When I retired and became less active I cut down on the intake of food. One slice of bread less each day, a bit less breakfast serial and a bit less additives like sugar or butter. The art is to make it as painless and less noticable as possible. It is willpower that will lose you weight. Cheers Wolfjk

After finding myself a bit overweight as a teen and then after going on two diets AND gaining the weight back I am now at a weight I am happy with and got there by NOT dieting! The very worst thing you can do is to diet which is depriving yourself of foods you enjoy as well as you feel as though your starving compared to what you used to eat! What I have found that worked for me was really pretty simple! First off, really LISTEN to your body wants and when you do that it will tell you when its REALLY hungry and what it really wants to eat! Most of the time we eat because food is simply there! But when you pay attention to your hunger and you eat what you REALLY want then you find your not wanting to eat all the time because your body is SATISFIED! I don't eat a whole lot of junk food or sweets and I do believe they are the BIGGEST reason most people are overweight! The thing is if your feeding your body what it wants and needs (and most bodies do want healthy foods to satisfy true hunger) you will find that your cravings for "bad" foods will slowly fade away. Doesn't mean you should never eat those kinds of food, life is meant to be enjoyed and there is on reason not to have them sometimes. Also EXERCISE! Doesn't have to be hours and hours in the gym but everyone can find something they really enjoy doing! I have been walking now for a good twenty years and its really helped keep me in shape and if I miss a day or two, no big deal since there are plenty more days to walk! Never feel like its all or nothing at all, live each day and do the best you can to eat healthy and fit in exercise when you can. If you really want to lose weight you can, anyone can, but you have to really care about your body more than you care eating carelessly!
How can we be really sure where reality ends and our dreams begin....Maybe all of this is just a dream.... |

You are not the only one having problems trying to lose weight, without any success. I know that it is very frustrating to try all sorts of things and still be in the same shape…..I too have faced that!!! Just a couple of weeks back I came across Weight Loss 2008 that not only made me glad I did (I finally got a product that does the real thing) but got the work started. It has been a great way for me because it doesn’t throw up obstacles but gets the job done.

Hi Monac,
You may want to be examined by your physican to rule out any possible medical causes. What helped me loss weight involved making small changes over time instead of at once. Find an activity that you enjoy so that you'll have a better chance of sticking to it. (Listening to music while walking helps me) In my opinion, do not go on any fad diets or pills, I feel that a person has to change their lifestyle. I used to weigh 230 lbs and am back down to 185 lbs. I feel much better and have more stamina so I think the work is worth it. Good luck and I wish you well. Smitty |

The problem you have came up against is your carbohydrate intake. Google for information on low-carb dieting or take up Robert Atken's diet or read the following article:
