Rather than being logical can we be realistic and observant; how can a trait be credited to one sex when it is shared by both? To think otherwise has to be fatuous. I am imaginative, creative, sensitive, loving, and caring. I am also intuitive; have a comprehensive understanding of myth, and symbolism, and the structure of story, but I am also male to the core and identify with my own sex. Those traits are by no means masculine nor feminine and in many females they are seriously lacking. How can Estes or other strident females, who seem to suffer from penile envy, possibly know how men feel; they can only but guess, a simple fact which is common to both sexes and those too of the third kind. There being more guys on this forum than dolls does not convey that they possess feminine traits but simply an interest and possibly skill in dream interpretation but nothing more; to presume otherwise is presumptuous. Anyone harbouring such views suffers from acute intellectual myopia.
PS What Estes described, as quoted in your post, is characteristic of the symptoms of schizophrenia, which possibly, you failed to notice. Last edited by Jennings : 05-17-2008 at 11:43 AM. |

Quote:
Dreams as they are can hardly be interpreted to mean this or that, as dreams do an important job in sleep; keeping the sleeper alive! However from time immeorial people tried to glean some meanings from them. The reason is the same ignorance people associated with the heart before the circulation of blood was discoverd. Who, amongst the scientific community today assert that dreaming is a vital biological function? I have not yet come across a single paper. Coming back to interpreting dreams; there is a famous interpretation of Calphurnia's dream in Shakespeare's Julius Ceasar! By a man and a woman! Cheers Wolfjk

Seems we may have a misunderstanding. I am not sure how else to distinguish between the traits besides masculine and feminine. I think we all have bits of both and am not berating the masculine race. Just wondered if any guys used the more 'right brained' approach for want of a better word.
By the way...amusing answer, manny, good for you

There is no way that personality traits which are common to both sexes can be described as being feminine nor masculine other than just being common. If academe chooses to differentiate variants as being of one sex or the other is simply and sadly academic jargon created to justify to academics that they possess a valid status in society and you and others who take their lead are being conned. Can you say if you are male or female or of the third kind or do you harbour some element of dubiety? Surely the answer you are seeking lies in how you view yourself. You have to stop taking onboard what others say, uncritically. Some men are attracted to working in a female dominated environment while some women are attracted to a male environment but the attraction is most probably due to some underlying sexual urge rather than possessing some ambiguously or doubtfully determined trait. What is said to be happening and what seems to be happening and what is actually happening are three different levels of comprehension. You seem to be stuck fast on the first level. Paedophiliacs, who have received a lot of publicity lately, seek out occupations where they can exorcise their proclivity but they do so under a socially acceptable disguise like being a man of God, so what is said to be done and what is seen to be done but what is actually being done are different which is exactly the same as academic jargon or social snobbery. Always suspect those who claim to possess a status in society and ask yourself the simple question, why the need? Try not to be blinded by propaganda. Remember, self praise is no praise.

I am not sure where you are going with this?

If you are unsure what I said in simple terms how is it that you believe that there exists male and female personality traits in each of us and how can either of the sexes identify this apparent difference in the other sex? Indeed, how can we be certain of our own sexuality if we possess feminine and masculine traits and especially if such traits are common to both sexes? Here again is the typical example where we use the same words in communicating yet seem to speak a different language. Surely I am not saying something that is difficult to comprehend?

No it was not a question of being personal Imogen but you started the thread with the premise that dreams were feminine; really, and I thought I was all masculine. For just one brief (very fleeting) moment you almost had me worried.

Its ok, all the answers were valuable to me and it was a potentially touchy subject. You were all brave enought to give an honest answer.
Appreciated.
