Default Recurring Dreams

For the past 17 years, I have had varying versions of the same dream. About 17 years ago, I was a TV news anchor, but quit the business. At the time, I didn't think I really had any issues about getting out of the biz. I had a few corporate jobs in between (which I hated) and eventually started my own business, which I've been running for the past 11 years. But, at least once or twice a month, I will have some variation of a dream where there are two of me in the dream, and one of me is telling the other one "You never should have gotten out of news." A couple of years ago, this dream became so disturbing to me that I decided, "Heck, maybe the Universe is trying to tell me something, so I'd better take some action." I went to a local Chicago TV station, interviewed, and was offered a job. Which I turned down. After hearing about everything that was happeneing in news, it reaffirmed my reasons for getting out of the business. I breathed a sigh of relief, thinking: "Ahhhh... Now I've addressed the issue. I won't have any more of those dreams." That night...I HAD ANOTHER DREAM ABOUT NEWS!! And I continue to have dreams about either working in TV news, getting back into TV news or some aspect of television journalism. What gives? I know I do not want to be in that field, since I have thoroughly explored this and thought about it in depth. I did go to a so-called "professional dream interpreter," who told me this: "It's not about being in news, it's about the news you're meant to deliver in this lifetime. You need to be like a Studs Terkel for women's issues and work for the U.N." That did not resonate with me AT ALL...but I have tried to keep an open mind about her comments.

The only thing I can think of is that, while my business is successful, and I did enjoy it immensely for many years, I feel the need to do something far more creative than I am now. (I do executive training.) But even when I really enjoyed my business, I was still having those dreams about TV news.

Any insight would be IMMENSELY appreciated!

Confused dreamer....

My experience is that dreams are about what is happening in your sleep. You made a very traumatic decision when you quit TV and it left a deep psychological impression on you. Nowdays whwnever a stressful situation arises in your life or your present occupation your subconscious uses the past experience in your dream - either to divert you from the issue or to wake you up with. However your subconscious can use your past experience to to divert you from physical discomforts or aces that might happen in your sleep. This quitting trauma might even be used to wake you in the morning if you feel tired or stressed. The experience contains a lot of mental energy that your subconscious can use for any purpose it chooses.
Cheers Wolfjk

Hi,
HOw confusing this may seem to you!
Was there something you DID like about being on tv news? Was there something that you were passionate about, that you wish you could pursue that's related to that time in your life?

Maybe, if you can find the one thing you may MISS about the past, it could clarify why you are having those dreams.
Are there any jobs related to the field of journalism that would fill that passion, without the nonsense/politics of the job?

Let me know what you come up with.
Good luck!

There are a lot of skills and abilities that you had when you were in TV news and you still have those skills and abilities. Maybe your subconcious is trying to tell you that you need to take these skills and abilities and think a little more outside the box. You need to apply them in a new and different way. Maybe your so called dream interpreter isn't so far off the mark. Keep your self open to unexpected avenues. It is great that you are enjoying your current career but we all have to grow and change and re-invent if only a little to keep things interesting. Maybe your subconcious is thinking ahead!! Good luck!
