Super this and super that, we have overused this word till its not even relevant. U.S. a super power? Looks like a super market, and we are almost COMPLETLY SOLD OUT! The real super power is not the U.S., can anyone answer me what and who is?

In today's political arena whenever the US sneezes the rest of the world's countries wipe their noses. No other country has the weaponary to stand up to the US and that is why the US is against the development of nuclear weapons by other regimes; and that is why, currently, it is seen as a super power. When the US invaded the small island of Granada, it simply did so even though it was a British protectorate and Britain did not retaliate. When Argentina invaded the Fakland Islands, Margaret Thatcher, the then UK Prime Minister had to gain the support of the US Administration for Britain to retaliate. The reason why Israel continues it's occupation of the Palestinian lands is due solely to the support of the US. More recently, when the citizens of the US fell into difficulty over mortgage repayments, the crisis is being felt globally. One could continue but now you will understand why it is seen as a super power; it may not be a continent but it sure is almost as large as one and more powerful than any other power in history.

The super part was a nice way to laugh ... thanks
But Jennings, thank you! Honestly Sir, you brought us back to the history and you are dead on, and correct. Truly, thank you both! |

Dear Jennings, I will give partial credit. Your very true in your first statement the world's nations do react to U.S. descisions. The world is feeling some of the economic woes of our mortgage crisis. What has caused this? Michigan unemployement is like a pulse of the nation its going into cardiac arrest. Alot of important international disputes do involve a nod from the powers that be is somewhat true, military might is a form of power. I will speak for many here in the U.S. that we are losing faith in career politicians in Washington. So with a straight to the pointe answer I feel that know one has answered yet. Of course a more indepth answer is most acceptable, it will help those that don't have a clue as to what this thread is about, but a simple statement or two will work also. Thank you for everyones reply, Jennings, messenger, and future replies too. Peace.

If you find the time and interest try reading what the Australian investigative journalist, John Pilger, has to say about the new world leaders and learn how implicated the US is in these affairs. See:

Thank you Jennings I will investigate this film and John Pilger's view, this may be close to the truth.
