Default ways to stop dreaming?

I have a question different from most of the ones on this board. i have very vivid dreams almost ever night. They are about pretty much everday things or about the future. the thing is I really do not like dreaming. I am wondering if anyone knows how to stop yourself from dreaming. i hear a lot about how to make yourself dream but i can't find any way to keep the dreams from coming. any help would be greatly apreciated.

You don't want to do that. You have nothing to look forward to as you go to bed. Think of dreams as a gift, especially vivid ones. At first I didn't like my dreams, but now my sister comes and visits me in my dreams and I look forward to them.

Think of dreams as a form of entertainment. Or as creative Ideas, write them down, try to draw them out. I've met people who don't dream at all and they are REALLY boring. They have no creative side to them. You have a gift that alot of people seem to not have. Any dream just don't let it get to you.

The more you are afraid to dream, perhaps the more you will, and your fear might increase. Sometimes fear causes us to do the complete opposite of what we really wanted as an end result.

I don't always have "nice" dreams but I do recognize they are just that, a dream, and the dream itself can't hurt me. Some people have "prophetic" dreams. We might see things in the dreams that cause us to have fear in the dream and when we wake, we remember details and the fear, but we don't start looking around for the "thing" in the dream that gave us the fear.

My spouse doesn't ever remember dreams and claims no dreams happen at all. Remembering them is beyond personal ability, but I do know dreaming occurs from verbal noises, REM eye movements, and body language. But I prefer to be me because my spouse never "feels" rested. Constantly tired and sometimes I think it might be restful to have a pleasant dream. In a profound way, even my "bad" dreams give me a secure sense of peace and comfort.

Try to change your mindset and fear against sleeping or dreaming.

Try, once you retire, to feel that you will not be able to recall your dreams upon awakening; do not put too much effort into this desire, simply believe and hope that that it will happen and you might discover a reduction in recall.

If you can wake up during your REM cycle then you probably won't dream.

Definitely true, but won't feel rested at all.

Jennings and others also have a good suggestion ... somethings got to work

Here is an extract from the French psychologist, Emile Coue, to provide you with some food for thought:

The foundation stones of Coue’s teaching
  • Imagination is the principal force of the human being and is the language of the unconscious mind. Once the imagination is employed for the benefit of ones psyche, there is no requirement for will power.
  • Imagination is more powerful than willpower. Everything that has been created by man, began as a thought, imagination.
  • All thoughts continue until they have been discharged by action, or changed by other thoughts.
  • Whenever there is a conflict between the imagination and the will, it is always the imagination that will win.
  • When the will and the imagination are in alignment. They do not simply add to one another, they multiply one another
In much the same way we can create our own dreams and Coue's theory too can help in reducing the degree of recall. I hope this helps.

Default idiots

you people who say dreaming is wonderful and creative are deluded!!! You obviously have not experienced reoccurring dreams, remembering over 5 dreams a night, dreaming about your partner graphically cheating on you in front of your eyes when they are the most faithful person in the world, see your grandfather strangle your grandmother, experience humiliation, relive a whole day and wake up exhausted from it.
For some people dreaming is sending them insane when they are normal, ruins their lives, makes them anxious about everything, makes their lives horrible when they have only experienced these things in a dream!!
Dreaming can be a horror, and needs to be stopped for some people!!!! Leave this poor person alone and give real advise like hang in there, someone will discover a solution soon cause this is a painful thing to go through.
so grow up, get over yourselves and your hippy fantasies and give sympathy for people like us!

Default wow

That is true, Tessa. Few of us have a tendency to have recurring nightmares that frighten us (I have them as well) as forms of post traumatic stress disorder, and whathaveyou.

When I have nightmares, I have very graphic detailed ones, usually flashbacks. But when I actually have a good dream... they are beautiful.

I wouldn't want to give up dreaming altogether, just because I have mostly nightmares, because then I wouldn't have anything to look forward to,
since maybe I will have a nice dream
