DrmDoc,
In my younger years I was a pothead eventually quitting because of marriage, children and job promotion. One night I dreamed I was smoking pot and got stoned, meaning I had the actual feeling of being high in my dream. That just seemed really bizarre to me. What are your thoughts on that? |

I used to toke out, for about 5 years (off and on). I never dreamed that I was high, but I DID notice that it affected my dreaming.. When I first started, I had really wild and entertaining dreams for at least a week or 2, and after awhile I must have stopped dreaming as often, b/c when I quit for awhile, & found out my brother did too, I mentioned that I was dreaming all the time again, and he said that he noticed the same thing. Any time I took it back up, I didn't notice much of a difference in my dreams, but every time I quit I went back to remembering my dreams all the time. This actually played a big part in my choosing to quit for good (also other things, like being tired of getting nervous when I saw a police car, or realizing that we all were becoming a little too satisfied with doing nothing). I hadn't seen this discussed before, so I figured I'd share it.

I was reading some other posts about the effects of smoking pot and dreaming, it reminded me of that dream I had. I found it odd that the brain could recreate the actual feeling of being high in a dream.

I say that dreams tell us how our life is going to go, or the way we want it to. It's hard to tell sometimes. One time I had a dream that I was at the zoo, working as a zookeeper. I figured that that meant that my life was going nowhere whatsoever!! I couldn't believe I dreamed that! Then, this is the wierd part, the next night I dreamt that I was dreaming that I was a zookeeper and I was really a CEO... The next day(out of dreamland, loll.in real life) I got a job interview for basically that... So, I think that the zookeeper dream was just a way of telling me that, maybe, don't give up... You'll always get what you want if you try hard enough, and want it enough. What do you say about this? |

Hello dreambaby101,
The more I study dreams, dreaming, and the dreaming brain, the more I believe there is no single define purpose to the extraordinary dream imagery and scenarios we may experience. However, what seem to arise most in my studies is how our dream experiences can focus our understanding of our wakeful life and prepares us for life's eventualities. I firmly believe that through our dreams we form a partnership with a highly insightful and evolved aspect of our being. Through our dreams, this being speaks in a language that is both simple and complex. Behind our superficial perception or understanding of our dreams, there is always meaning much deeper than we may perceive. I welcome your further thoughts.
