Dreams are not restful because they do not involve the most restful stages of sleep. Dreaming isn't sleep: In truth, dreaming is a type of consciousness in the brain. The dreaming brain is as activity as a consciously awake brain. Wakefulness in the brain is not akin to being at rest. The dreaming brain can use more energy than when it is consciously awake. What you may require is more non-dreaming sleep. There are remedies that may apply.

To remember your dreams better, you must perceive them with some relavence to your physical/material wellbeing. Memory is tied to our experience of physical/material reality, which dreams are not. Remembering our dreams require us to perceive and believe them as having consequence in physical reality.

Your experience is what sleep researchers call hypnogogic, it describes that state of awareness between sleep and conscious arousal. In this state, thoughts become deeds; i.e., your experiences within this state describes what you may be think and feeling about that state. For example, the feeling of not being able to move in this state often causes one to feel vulnerable. At that point, a darken figure may be perceived in the room. That figure is a manifestation of one's fear of vulnerability. I hope this helps.

Interestingly, your own dreams may offer a clue. Dreams often describe the influences that motivate or drive our behaviors. It may be that your dreams describe your interest in understanding what lies beneath the surface of your pet's behavior. Yours dreams could provide a glimpse of what you may already know about the motives behind their behaviors. Although you may not find any grand revelations, you will likely find imagery in your dream that describes you as a primary influence upon their behavior. I hope this helps.

Hi,
I have studied dog dreams for some time. If you have a pet dog, take notes of what he does during a long walk. When you get home let hime have a nap in his favourite place and wtch him. If you keep doing these observations I'm sure you will notice that certain actions the dog does on it's walks will be recognisable in its dreams.
I watched my dog dreaming about following the flight of a fly in the room. Although his eye lids were closed, I could see the eyeball making the same movement as when it watched the fly when awake.
Usually the dreaming starts with the rapid eye movement. You might see your dog chase a rabbit or a cat and dream about it the next day. You will see its legs make a running action and yapping. The movements are similar to the real chase but limited.
Sometimes you might see you dog buzzed by a wasp. Watch its facial movements; especially how it bears its teeth and pulls back its lips. This often comes out in dreams. Another interestin dream action is when a dog looks at a spider. Watch it's disgusted look at the creature! That can often be seen in a dreaming dog. It seems that fear of spiders is a common thing amongst animals.
By watching a dog dream you can also notice how mistaken the scientific community was by the discovery of REM! It is nothing more than the eyes watching a dream.
Cheers Wolfjk

So, if you have questions about the general nature of dreams and dreaming or have theories you'd like to explore, I invite you to do so here in discussion with me. I welcome your thoughts.

For the last 2 weeks i keep having dreams about my dead dog, who died March of last year. I was just wondering what that means? Like last night, He was in my dream but only I could see him, everyone thought i was crazy, and I just keep hugging him and stuff.
Do you know what this means?
Thanks for your time!

The potential for violence is in everybody's nature and dreams can reflect that potential. However, the acts of physical violence in dreams are not always representative of true physical violence. Very often, the harsh way we express ourselves to others can have a violent affect on their minds and emotions. Ours dreams can and do reflect the agressive way we think and sometimes feeling. It best to think of images and experiences in our dreams as metaphors for our thoughts and emotions rather than their literal depictions. I hope this helps.

His imagery in your dream probably describe his lingering influence upon your thoughts and emotions. You may continue to miss his presence and your dreams merely describe what you may be feeling. Being able to see him in your dreams when others in the dream could not describes the feelings you continue to hold, which others cannot see or do not understand. I hope this helps.

I do not believe the constraints of our society are an inhibitor, but intstead they are the commonality we've found that enables us to understand the world around us and interact with it in a way that is life sustaining.

But I think it might be interesting to note the collective consciousness, which IS affected by societal change.

There was some very intersting research done on this in Germany during WWII. As the powers then in control sought to control the actions and words of it's people, it seeped into their dreams as well. There was a common wellspring of nightmares all centered around the same themes, fear of self-betrayal, loss of identity, and a lack of privacy, etc.

Also interesting to note, according to what I've read; the only thing being creative and artistic seems to be good for in dreaming is to increase incidence of nightmares. I'll cite Ernest Hartmann's work on the subject, with the idea of thin boundaries.

Thoughts?

I'm not quite sure to which post your comments apply; however, the idea of a "collective consciousness" associated with dreams was an idea Carl Jung introduced. After many years of study, I do not believe that there is enough evidence to support that idea.

The idea that shared experiences, particularly learning experiences, lead to shared ways of feeling and thinking isn't new. What may be new to some and difficult for many to understand is how this idea relates to shared dream experiences. Dreaming is a mental experience; i.e., it is a product of what may be happening in our mind when we sleep. If the wakeful experiences we share in common causes us to have thoughts and feelings in common that commonality can and does produce mental experiences reflecting our shared thoughts and feelings. The difference here is that the "collective" is a product of individual minds brought together by a share experience rather a collective repository of knowledge exerting some subconscious influence upon our separate minds. I welcome your thoughts.
