After hearing the news about the death of Heath Ledger, and seeing clips of his character in the new Batman movie, do you think that his mind was in a bad way from playing this part?
From my own experience of sleep - if I watch certain type of movie or TV before sleep, I sleep badly and have a really disturbed night. If it does that to me when I am only watching moving picures on a screen, imagine what it must do to someone who actually has to live the part! Questions. Do you believe that violent TV and computer games have an adverse effect on your consciousness? Do you think they have a bad energy about them, which in turn opens people up to more bad energy? And what is your experience or knowledge of this?

Movies can affect one's dreaming depending on their emotional impact to one or, if one has few or no problems worrying them then the mind will occupy itself with the movie or even a book one is reading or whatever.
Actors, and I am not speaking from personal experience but rather from the general information culled throughout my life, find that they can hide themselves in a part so that they can act the part without it affecting their lives. Stage actors who are playing the same part nightly can sometimes carry the part into their daily lives but it is transitional and apparently can readily be dropped. Theatrical violence (from whatever source) has no effect on well adjusted individuals but there is a tendency for it to affect the maladjusted or maleable infantile minds by implying that it is okay to be like this or to do this which is one of the problems with tv soaps which serve to demean the average intelligence to its lowest common denominator. Television in particular tends to pander to the intellect of the under 20s. Some people who become successful cannot manage nor carry their new status well and begin to feel that luck will always be with them. Once having reached the epitome of excitement where to next for the adrenaline rush, so they become risk takers and crossing the line can become easy. Anytime the media makes out that criminals are dangerous or tough it allures those who feel inadeqaute to become criminal simply to bolster their own flagging image. If the truth were made known about their inner inadequacies it would reduce the rate of crime almost overnight. The same impact applies to academe and other professional bodies; nothing is new! |

films have effects on your conciousness. I am so sure, and specially after i dreamed this crazy dream (below). i stopped watching horror filmst after the first Saw, like 3 or 4 years ago.
Its not that i cannot watch it. i just dont want to be inspiered by these crazy things that are showing you a lot of disgust. the dream was connected to The Ring, and i have never been so scared all my life but i want to say that i have seen both the japanese and the USA version of the ring. (japanese first) and i didnt really think about it then. its just a movie, and its just a story. but then 3 or 4 years later, few freaking YEARS later this poppes up! i have decided to stick to my plan to not watch these horror films. Dream: I was in a house and it had many stories. I there was this strange energyt here and somebody was chasing me. but then i figured out that i had to take 2 puppets up to the top floor, and there was this special toilet. i had to flush the puppets down the toilet, but it had to be done in a special way. i didnt know how, to i had to try and run down and see if it was ok, or if not, i had to take them upstairs again and try a different methot. finally i realized that it had to be done at a time, so i put one in the toilet and flush, then ai do the same with the other one and then it was ok! but when i came downstairs i was the person that had been chansing me. she was there wearing this nice fancy girlish dress, and said to me: "hey, you figured it out! but this one thing you didnt know.... (smiled)...i am the girl from the ring! "and then i was in this strange soundproof room, where the walls were with this white covering, but it had some special designed patter to it. it had also few tv screens in the walls, but it had only white picture. then on the right, there is this seat, like constructed from the same material as the walls, and in this seat, the girl is sitting, combing her blonde hair. (she didnt look like the ring girl) I was so freaking scared, and remember i was conciously dreaming, so i didnt know what to do. so i start to say: this is not reality. i dont believe in the ring. at this moment, i get so scared, i felt "nothing" i was so cold and i was so firghtened that i couldnt move. i kind of was in a shock. then i said. i believe in god. but not you. i dont believe in you,l i believe in god. you dont excist... (and so on). i swoop out of the dream and imlaying completely still in my bed, i didnt even dare to open my eyes or move. i was hoping that the phone wouldnt ring. but hey, i dont have a tv, so it wouldnt matter i dont have a VCR. i just hope the phone will not ring.! then i swooped in the dream again and im still hoping that the phone will not ring. then i start to write down: "I believe in " but when i was going to write GOD, i couldnt! no matter how hard i tried to wirte GOD. it just wouldnt happen, but in stead i just drew circle (like in the film!) and then i was freaking out, so i ended up forcing myself to write god, but it was so bad writing and the letters were so imperfect. But i wake up again and the phone didnt ring yet. so i fall asleep again and then i can hear her walk in the street. the sound of the shoes in the street , every step she made. and it was like she was walking back and forth in front of my house. I keep saying that i believe in god and the ring is not real. but then whe wants to take me away with her. (all the rest is a mind power battle, "my view" was just me laying in my bed, but it was dream, because it wasnt like real bed) i fight as hard as i can, making my thoughts stronger than hers, and i was so tierd. it took so much energy, but i had to win!!!! so then ther was something about the tape that whe wanted me to watch, but i dint watch it. i dint have VCR so i couldnt watch it. finally she gave up, the mind battle, and i forced her to go away. i told her that she was not allowed to try to take ma again, and prooved that my mind was stronger. then she disappeared. I woke up, and stayed awake for a long time, trying to think of something else than the dream or the movie or whatever that could connect to this. |

Hello Narcolpetic
Yes I have heard that film the ring is quite bad. My husband started to watch it once, but turned it off as he felt really uncomfortable with watching it. Certainly sounds like it effected you. Hello Jennings, I certainly agree with you on the first point. Your worries tend to take priority in your dreams. However, I still wonder about the actors in horror films. I understand what you say about being able to switch off on a conscious level. But what about your subconscious? Do you not find that the things you do and watch during the day imprint themselves deeper in your subconscious? If an actor is seeing and acting out horror, even though he knows consciously it’s not real, his subconscious only sees the images. Apparently the subconscious works only in images. That is why some of these companies spend a huge amount on advertising and putting in subliminal messages (one evil, soft, fizzy drink company springs straight to mind here). So does the horror not imprint itself in your mind, only to come out some other way? I absolutely agree with you regarding soaps. I steer clear of them myself, much better things to do, don’t you know. They do dumb you down though, which is their intention. If people are worry over what is going on is a soap plot, they don’t question the status quo. There is one bit in animal farm where the pigs roll in the TV to keep the rest of the animals distracted………..how true that is for the masses.

I do not feel that there exists a dichotomy between what we each are suggesting. I accept the point about images and the subconscious but we have a threshold guardian or gate-keeper called the the conscious mind which filters or blocks that which we believe to be either desirable or harmful. Whenever a horror film, just viewed, percolates up from the subconscious in our dreaming it could be that it has struck a sensitive point in that part of us which wears the halo but, when this does not happen, then it is probably the sign that there is currently nothing else important to one's life for the subconscious to dwell upon; in other words, we are temporarily free-wheeling and at ease with life and ourselves.
Consider this; how do I know what I am going to say until I have said it? Now, stop smiling; think about it. |

Just like there is physical laws there is spiritual laws. Put dirty water into a bucket and you cant clean up a spill properly. Put clean water into a bucket you can clean some but you must empty out the water and refill with clean water over and over again. We are like a sponge what do you soak up, what gets rung out of you when you feel the squeeze and preasure in life? Some things we have to see does that mean we agree with it? Some graphic images are important for research, for learning, and if you are investigating crimes. Movies and music has heavely influinced this gen, ya think?

Or can it be an excuse for those wishing to point to something else instead of taking responsibility?
idk....I'm not affected by what I hear or listen to. By choice, I choose fairly well because of "my taste" .... however, NOT by choice, I see and hear more bad stuff then I care too. But then again I live on this earth but don't join in nor use these influences for my excuse to do wrong. Thanks for a great question and answers! |

Dear Jennings,
I hope you are well. I understand what you are saying. But the guardian cannot stop you from seeing what you are seeing. Do you not take the image in somehow? Dear Resin8love, That is a really good analogy, I like it. Dear Messenger, I certainly agree with you that we make our own choices at a conscious level, and that if you or I watch a horror film, we won’t go out and copy it or act it out. I also completely agree with Resin8love that what is put into our minds can effect us at some level. Do you think that everything you take in, imprints itself somewhere in your mind. You may not act on it, but it can effect the peace of your mind. For example, compare a teenager who only plays violent video games on his play-station every day for 12 hours to a Buddhist monk meditating in a cave for 3 years without speaking and with no outside influence or TV………what would be the quality of their dreams? Their day to day activities must surely affect their dreams?

However, on the other hand, my children growing up in this age had a hard time trying to turn away from it, and unfortunately, my spouse and I didn't believe in "sheltering" them. So it did affect their behaviour but no nighttime terrors or nightmares. When their behaviour wasn't in line with what we wanted, we disciplined them accordingly to their poor actions. So far, knock on wood, none have ever been in trouble in school, the law, personal lives and marriages. They have been successful in the business world so far to date. Not believing in "religion" but still having a strong personal belief, we were told we were wrong and shouldn't allow our children's brain to be fed garbage. So we were sure to feed them other food for thought too .We still have a few younger ones to finish with, so who knows, one just might give us a run for the money |
