I cannot admit to being one but do have a friend who repeatedly drops-off to sleep at all unexpected moments. It can be a tad embarrassing, especially when one is in the throes of talking to her. She also, incidentally, happens to be a depressive who will frequently hide beneath the dining table when so affected.

Help is available but she elects to remain as she is; a very unstable woman who seems to enjoy the attention that this brings in its wake. She attracts her own problems.

How do you cope with this? Do you know what causes it?
I saw a program about it once, where people were literally falling asleep in their dinner. They also held meetings for people who suffered with this. They all had to take the minutes as they all kept falling asleep during the meeting.

My wife and I accept her for all the problems that she has. There is an air of vanity about her almost as if she is proud to be different and she is quite manipulative (incidentally she is an Essex girl). She is a divorcee with two teenage children whom she has brought up herself. Although life appears to be a constant struggle for her she always survives whatever it throws at her. Frankly, she is quite an amazing woman and has a nice side to her nature (when she's awake)! We try, where and when we can, to help but making certain that we are not interfering nor intruding unwelcomingly in her life; befriending her can at time be like treading on eggshells; a very delicate balance.
