General Chit-Chat Kind of like a lounge, just come in and talk about anything at all. Relax, this is like the water cooler at the office.

Eating/Drinking something before going to bed and then having a weird dream.

Question Eating/Drinking something before going to bed and then having a weird dream.

Weird question I know. .....have you: Is it true if you consume some dairy or milk before you sleep....you will have a "out of place" type of dream. I heard you can do this twice also, but probably just twice. I am basically asking if any of you have experienced this. To control thoughts with food would be great.....

I've heard several people make links between particular dreams and food/beverages consumed just before sleeping, but I'm not sure if I believe in that.

Some personal thoughts and observations: is there any real difference between food and especially processed foods and drugs; as far as the stomach is concerned, not a lot. When substances that we consume or imbibe effect us it does so on an individual basis so each of us is affected differently. The placebo-effect is also a powerful influence on us and its effect is worthy of studying. Taking anything to eat that causes indigestion is more likely to cause us to remember our dreams as our sleep pattern is usually shallow. Alcohol can be a mind stimulant as well as a depressant which can readily affect our sleep and dream recall. There are other factors too that affect our sleep pattern and cause us to remember our dreams or that we are dreaming. Foods made from grains are poorly digested by the stomach so can cause our awareness of dreaming. I do not drink milk but do eat cheese and I sleep soundly. I know that I dream but seldom, indeed, can I recall them.

Default Mah

Wow, talk about hitting the hammer on the nail... That's how a lot of my lucid dreaming gets done.... I also find interacting like a mad cow towards people or doing stuff in general aid in such lovely addictions....

Default I know this post is kind of old...

I just joined this site and I found this post. I was interested because it reminds me a lot of my current situation.
Lately I've been on this chocolate milk binge. Kind of weird, I know. It's all I've been drinking pretty much. And every night before I would go to bed I would drink a glass of chocolate milk and when I woke up I would remember these really vivid, rather bizarre dreams that I had. I didn't think much of it until this morning when I woke up and was pretty thirsty. I didn't feel like digging the water pitcher out of the fridge so I just had a glass of milk, then I went back to bed. Between the time I drank the milk and the time i fully woke up, I had an extremely vivid and weird dream about driving, missing a turn, and being back in high school I didn't know what to think of it. So I thought maybe the milk had something to do with it.
