I want to know if that theory that we only use a certain percentage of our brains is actually true, and what percentage is it? Do we know what the rest is for? does it just hold water or what?

No, we use our entire physical brains to do all the things we do in life. The idea that we only use a small portion (10%) comes from the idea, I believe, that most human beings act like sheep. A sheep's brain is about 10% of the size of a human brain.

(Albert Einstein alluded to this idea that we don't use our brains enough, but never said there was a physical 10% function versus a 90% dormant portion, btw. It's just been a concept capitalized by anyone and everyone wanting to point out the unrealized potential of humanity over the decades since Einstein suggested this idea)

It's more that we don't maximize the function of our grey matter, though we use all of it in our own, small way. :P

If I may, I should say that I'm not a psychologist but I have seen a film about the brain of Einstein and there was shown that he didn't use his entire brain.
But the idea I am believed to is that our learnings and our memories are not on the brain but on our soul,spirit.That we took them to the other world spirituals.


I want to tell you a reason to know that 5 senses can't understand anything except by the soul,

Knows everything although senses are dead and can’t see or hear of course you shouldn’t deny that soul in addition of the senses knowledge recognition in the waking life and after vanishing the senses has sex with them then it recognizes the things after going senses and now you understand that the itself is guiding the senses and is their governor and none of the senses can’t do anything without soul; if the soul goes ahead body wasn’t get back and if soul gets back the body won’t go ahead with the soul the happiness comes and with it the ache is received if a sense is damaged the soul is remained but if the soul is damaged senses can work properly.

some scientists say that we use whole brain but we are only concious of 20% of it. About dreaming is said that we continue to think when we are asleep but all our thinking is presented into symbols like humans started to think in begining of evolution

Surely you must mean a neurologist rather than a psychologist? Neurologists study the central nervous system which includes the brain while psychologists study mental processes usually related to behaviour. Neurology is more related to the brain's physiological structure while psychology relates to how it affects behaviour. Apparently the only part of our brain which provides our self-awareness is situated in the forebrain, a small area, while the majority of our brain operates at the unconscious level which covers the greater part of the brain. It is not possible to consciously utilise the full capacity of our brain although we do have a limited influence over it. The forebrain which provides our self-awareness is truly an amazing organ.

that's a shame. I was developing an idea that the reason we only use part of our brain is because we're supposed to have more personalities. I believe its possible to have more than one personality just by conditioning yourself, not just through traumatic experiences. I have three home-made personalities. They took over ten years to develop though, and they're not yet full personalities (their memories still overlap in places and I have trouble managing them in an emergency).

yes it is true that we only use a certain percentage of our brains. it is to be believed by some, that at one point we had full use of them. the other part of the brain remains gray matter like the entire thing. but as far as being able to put it to good use...it probably isn't going to happen. even the most brilliant men like einstein and beethoven didn't have full use of their brains.

The human body is a very effiscent system and almost every part has a clearly defined function. Different parts of the brain perform different tasks.
Perhaps the idea that we use only a percentage of brain capacity comes from the perception that we have a subconscious side, and it seems to be more powerful than the conscious side of our brain.
This idea seems to have some validity as the subconscious seems to have access to all our life experiences when creating dreams.
Your suggestion about developing different personalities is nothing more than learning. The actors do it all through their life. It comes in handy in impersonations as well.
I think you should be more careful with your personalities; Soon you'll not know who you are!
