Hi all,
I am turning 62 soon and having to select a supplemental plan to Medicare and choose a D prescription plan. Does anyone have any proposal for me? I am concerned that the prescription plan will give me generic thyroid meds instead of brand. I have called several and they say that they will not if my doctor has prescribed brand. Any experience here will be of great help. Thanks in advance! |

Working in the medical field and having come across this problem of brand medications vs generic with both my spouse and patients, it is best to have your MD write or mark "Brand Only" on your Rx. A lot of Prescription plans run on "formularies" meaning they will only cover at the best rate what is on their formulary, most of these meds are generic. If you do the best on name brands then you should stay with them but realize that you may have a higher co-pay. We have gone round and round with our Ins plan regarding one of my husband's meds which he has tried to take as a generic but does not respond well, actually, it makes him worse. We have had to go as far as to have his MD write a letter to our Ins company stressing the importance of brand name in this case. I hope this helps and good luck to you.
