Question Lack of dreams...

I know this is supposed to be a dream resource space, but I really don't know how to describe my predicament (or put a specific term on it?) in order to research and, hopefully, solve the problem.

Basically, I dream extremely rarely.
Once or twice a month, at most.
(Or, rather, I only REMEMBER my dreams that often)

It's always been like this, but I've only recently (within the last couple years) realized how much I'd like the problem corrected. I do see it as an actual problem. After thinking about it extensively, I realized that I was missing out on an incredible resource--if not as an artist, than as a tool for every day conversation.

I started to associate this with my lifestyle. I'm young, and I've lived in a very small, close-minded place for most of my life; I never felt at home, and always felt suppressed. I associated this with my sleep, thinking that it was disrupted because of my stressful, and yet fearful lifestyle. But, after moving about two months ago and completely changing my environment for the better, I still don't remember my dreams.

Can anyone give advice, or refer me to someone who can?
Because I really feel left out...

Hi Fenlon,
I wish I had your predicament! Contrary to what you hear from some "dreamers" the natural thing is not to remember the dream. Dreaming is an important part of life. You need a dream to wake you every time you go to sleep. However once a dream is dreamt, it's done the job and remembering it would be a waste of mental energy. On occasions when there is some problem with the system the dreams are remembered; like you remember special occasions in your life, remember seeing an accident happen or other unusual occurrances. When you are healthy and young, with few psychological problems, you don't need nightmares and bad dreams to wake you or move you about.
I could give you many remedies that would make you remember dreams, but some do damage the brain. Perhaps one way to remember dreams that is the least harmful is: if you can afford a lie in on a holiday, after you woke up naturally, lie in bed with your hands above your shoulder and under your head and relax. It is not always successful but sometimes interesting. Dont sleep on your back with your hands over your chest. That can cause nightmare.
Cheers Wolfjk
