hi there, Last night I dreamt that somone I know quite well was whispering in my ear, as he was whispering I felt frozen and my heart was beeting very fast. Some of it I could not understand it was a speach of some sort in a poetic way, but the part I did understand was a marriage proposal. I am not involved with this person and even though we are friends there is always tension between us. We have both decleared that we have issues with each other and that we drive each other nuts. Is this something I want to hear, or something I will hear very soon. cheers

Although it would be better to know more about you in order to provide an accurate interpretation, one approach to your dream is to view it as being mostly about an inner figure (the whispering man) some of whose characteristics are projected onto your outer friend.
The inner man would tend to represent probably such things as thinking and the intellect, being assertive, being focused, and knowing what you want and going after it. The strong emotions of feeling frozen and the beating heart may mean that you are largely unconscious of these traits in yourself and that they could be undeveloped in some way. Therefore, they are probably being projected for example on your friend, often causing upsets and misunderstandings. All the same, a certain largely uncontrolled inner flow of thoughts, opinions and attitudes is still seductive (poetic way), partly because these ideas etc. are very easy to pick up from the society around you instead of being firmly worked out in an individual way by yourself over time. So from this point of view, you might “want to hear” an outer proposal in this case because it would seem to be an ideal sort of thing to happen in some ways, but it might be based on an inner state where certain viewpoints etc. won’t be able to stand up to the stress of being together constantly for example. From a symbolical point of view, marriage in a dream would represent being linked indissolubly with this inner figure, but that might not be a good thing if it is mostly undeveloped in some way in its current state. As mentioned, if this figure is projected outward onto a man and a marriage resulted, the outcome might not be too positive overall in the long run if the inner man is too undeveloped and unconscious, but only you can think over and decide if that would be the case with you and your friend. Of course, the dream could include the message that the outer man who could be experiencing an equivalent projection onto you (but more based on his feeling personality as opposed to this thinking side) might actually propose. Relationships are very complex in general and many women find the ideas of analyst Marion Woodman especially helpful regarding this inner man who can tend to disrupt things in the outer world. You might like her book on the subject “The Ravaged Bridegroom”, or you could browse through some of her approaches to this and other issues on the website Marion Woodman Links I hope these brief ideas and comments will be helpful in some way. |
