Default Help needed in analyising recurring dream/nightmare

Hi My Name is Paul,

I am 28 and live in Scotland, have a good relationship and business/home.

For roughly two years now i have been having the same dream/nightmare on random night/ weeks, maybe once a fortnight or once a week at most:

I am standing in the playing fields or near to the playing fields that I would spend my childhood days in hanging around with friends, i was about 12-15 at these times, or I am looking down from my house on the hill looking over the playing fields and village at most about half a mile away, its one position or the other.

I look up in the sky and see a commercial passenger plane making lots of noise that sounds bad, I know that its in trouble and eventually it crash lands at speed in the fields that I played in an explosive manner, wreckage, debris and bodies everwhere, some are still alive and running around me screaming and on flames, I stand shocked and cant do anything and then I wake up?

I do have the odd occasional other dream that does involve a plane crash, but I am never in the the plane, just a bystander unable to do anything.

Since this has happened I have been unable to board a plane due to fear, i had booked a fortnight in canada and the day before I was due to fly had to tell my girlfriend that I was unable to go, lost my money, but wasnt bothered as I am convinced that i will perish on a plane.

I would like to get over this fear as prior to this I loved flying and have travelled frequently to other countries, I am about to embark a course flying light aircraft to help get over my fear?

I am also in a distressing was fascinated with a program on the national geographic channel, called plane crash investigations, a documentary where plane crashed are analysed and fault found,

Is there a link, what does my dream say? I have searched for an answer for 2 years.

Any help would be greatly apprceciated.

Kind Regards

Paul

Default Plane crashes

Hy Paul,
Perhaps your preoccupation with this:
"I am also in a distressing way fascinated with a program on the national geographic channel, called plane crash investigations, a documentary where plane crashed are analysed and fault found,"
Perhaps you also remember the Lockerby disaster. You can convince yourself that flying is unsafe if you try hard enough.
Your dream also brings to mind the plane crash on the M1 near Deby where one of the engines failed and the plane could not make it to the airport. From your post it can be deducted that the aircrash investigations you watched impacted on your consciense and on your dreams
There can be physical reasons for reoccurring dreams, however it seems in your case that the reason for the dreams are psychological. Both these crashes happened when you were a teenager.
Cheers Wolfjk
