I dreamt that I was in the middle of my gemology exam. I could not write anything. The guy next to me failed too. He spent £3,700 on tuition fees and still failed.
What does this mean

Hi David
Well many dreams are directly related to current events. Try thinking back to the day before. Was there anything on your mind that concerned the following types of thoughts Some test of your own abilities. Some situation where you worry that people maybe judging your abilities. What about the day to come? Where you anxious about some situation? ------------------ It is actually possible to understand what dreams mean. Simply look at the effects on people who have gone without sleep for a long time period. If you are deprived of sleep for several days then you will slip into madness. The reason for this is that sleep and dreams are linked to vital brain functions. During the day we store up new thoughts and experiences within short term memory blocks. So if we are deprived sleep these become overloaded. The mind has no more space to store new feelings so these are merely forgotten. During sleep vital brain waves emerge. Beta waves and theta waves are only ever detected within the brain at night. These help us process through those new feelings and experiences stored in short term memory. We integrate these new feelings into long term memory blocks. So if you do not sleep then you will not be updating your thoughts. You will not be building a bigger picture. You failed in some examination in school when young.
It is your strong traumatical experience for life. You are always suffering it subconsciously night and day. You have to challenge some another exam to beat it. |

I just had a similar dream about an exam. Everyone sat down at desks which was arranged like in Elementary where there are like 4 or 5 desk facing each other. I came in with a sheet from a previous course I took which was similar to the class I was currently taking (In real life also) So I felt somewhat confident that I knew this stuff.
The girl next to looked around to see if anyone was looking, then asked me what the first few answers where. After I helped her, I began looking at the rest of the questions & felt stumped. It was like I didnt study anything to be prepared. (which isnt like me) So I tryed to get her to help me....but it still wasn't enough. |

I would not say that this is really a nightmare or relates to any traumatic experience. I would not worry about this dream. If you had a trauma then you would start to behave in very erratic ways - behaving obsessively. This is just an ordinary dream.
------------------ One way of telling how vital dreams are is to study people who are deprived of sleep and dreams.Sleep deprivation is very dangerous if it continues for extended periods. If you are deprived of sleep for several days then you will slip into madness. The reason for this is that sleep and dreams are linked to vital brain functions. If someone suffers from generalized social phobia and excessive fear of being judged or scrutinized by some exam,a high-pressured job where the person was required to,for example, speak in front of groups or evaluate peers or interact with authorities would be extremely stressful and would be likely to exacerbate the symptoms. That is one of the most undertreated of all anxiety disorders. So sometimes exacerbation of the symptoms forces an individual to face those sympyoms and treatment. The difference between the social anxiety that most of us feel and that of someone with generalized social phobia is the degree of anxiety and fear.People with generalized social phobia are terrified of a number of situation that we might not even concider social.Doing anything where they might be watched or judged and this anxiety is excessive and actually be associated with nightmare. So an individual writing a check in grocery store may have a panic disorder because they think they are taking too long in line. It is really quite debilitating.

Well we all feel under stress. I try to link dreams to everyday issues. Often the specific trigger for any given dream is linked to the day before. Its unlikely that the dreamer could be able to remember this dream as it happened some time ago. So we may not find out.
However, I heard a radio presenter talking about dreams the other day. He has a recurring dream about being in a school exam. He is as confident and phobia free as they come. GONZALO : You have mentioned phobias, traumas, and used such terms liberally. Quite how you can justify this dreamer having some severe social phobia is beyond me. After all you do not know him do you? Dreams can have a variety of meanings. They may link to ordinary anxiety. To jump to such a conclusion so quickly seems a bad judgment on your part. ------------------------ Dreams are about the important things in our lives. One of the most important issues for us to consider is our own health. If some health issue has been affecting you then its possible a dream could be about that. But also if you are taking major risks with your health then dreams maybe about that. So look for connections with your general health. Think especially about new feelings about your health. Everyone faces personal anxieties and fears.they're part of everyday life.
But for millions of people, anxieties and fears are overwhelming and persistent, often drastically interfering with daily life.It is common. A lot of people in broadcasting suffer from this kind of disorder. And a lot of people have to face it and learn how to deal with it.The most important thing is how to deal with bad dreams by interpretation of them. |

Well actually I do remember the day before. I did read your post at the time and it did make sense. Thank you for your time. There was something very specific about the day before. It was not really a bad dream. I felt no sense of it being a nightmare. Any way i do remember the day before because I read your reply at the time but never posted back. I was thinking how to word a reply to a contact I have in the amber industry. I knew I had to word it correctly. I was a little worried about getting it right because this guy had lots of good knowledge. It was not a big deal at the time.

Hi david
I have just been looking at your website. Its certainly very interesting. You obviously have a breadth of knowledge on the subject of amber. I looked right throughout the site. Thanks for the reply. It certainly makes sense. The dream need not link to some deep seated trauma. Thats obviously jumping the gun. One of the main problems with dream analysis is that freud and others link dreams to deep seated traumas. Thats often quite erroneous. In reality this dream was triggered by an everyday issue... a need to get something right. That often happens. We make judgments about how much effort we should put into something. ------------------------ If people truly knew the meaning of their dreams they would be quite surprised. Many have helped perpetuate the myth that dreams are really deep and meaningful. True some are but the majority of dreams are simply part of our brain functions. They help us clarify everyday issues. These are very important at the time but are far from being crucial in the overall scheme of things. Freud and others talk of the deeper dreams. But that is only because of their interest in psychology. They also speak of lots of other dreams that are insignificant and just linked to the previous day. But these dreams are interesting in themselves. They too show how the brain works. So simple dreams with meanings like "I need to spend more time on my studies" are important. If we can understand the simple dreams we can apply knowledge gained to solve the more trickier dreams.
