Default Dream within a Dream

For the last week I have been having a dream within a dream. I feel very upset when I finally wake after both of them. The dreams themselves are very vivid, and seem so real; and the first few moments I wake up I remember them exactly. But I fall right back to sleep and do not remember them in the morning. This has happened for several nights and I do feel they are not the exact same dreams each time, even though I can not remember the details of any of them by morning.

I guess my questions is if anyone can please tell me if having a dream within a dream means something in particular, and in the mean time I will try to record the info as soon as I wake from the dreams. Thanks.

Just to start off by saying that any dream is best analyzed only when taking into account its overall context which consists of the dreamer’s background, recent events, as well as everything that comes to the dreamer’s mind about each dream image. Similarly it’s best to be open to various ideas about what a dream-within-a-dream might mean depending on the dreamer’s personal circumstances, but overall such a dream often points to a deep-set need to fundamentally change something.

This ties in with one aspect of such a dream, that is, the idea of being especially unconscious or “asleep” since the dream ego thought it was awake but finds out it was really “asleep” all the time about an overall situation that was being depicted.

Also, a dream usually takes place on one “stage” and the scenes change on this basic stage. However, a dream-within-a-dream suggests a whole new stage that “contained” the earlier one. This idea of a “largeness” that can contain something else may point to the need for an important shift in outlook for example.

It’s good that you wish to try and capture these dreams because they’ll likely respond as if they appreciate your interest and will try to clarify as well as they can what new adjusted viewpoint etc. might be needed at this time of your life.

However, this is only one approach to your recent dreams and it’s possible that they may instead be pointing to a more specific issue that needs looking into. Either way it’s usually best to be aware of something that’s currently mostly unconscious so that any needed corrective action can be taken in a timely way.
